"My Base Was Murdered by a Giant" Focus Group

Recommended Posts

Me: Hi, My name is Monty

Group: Hi Monty!

Me: My base has been destroyed by a deerclops, it has been 128 days since the last time my base was destroyed by a giant.

Group Leader: And how did that make you feel?

Me: It made me very sad. My character was starving when the deerclops stuck, I then starved to death, then froze. The worst part is that he murdered Chester, he didn't even see it coming...

Group Leader: This concludes this meeting of the "My Base Was Murdered by a Giant" Focus Group.

Please answer the following questions:

Have you or your base ever been murdered by a giant?

What was your immediate reaction?

What did you learn from the experience?

My base once got destroyed by a Bearger (half of it)

My reaction was "NOOOO" and I made him follow me so he doesn't destroy the rest of my base

And I learnt that you should always get prepared for giants a few days before and make gunpowder!

I have two stories.

The first one was to ol' One Eye who decided my base was too pretty for nature. (I worked very hard on those fireflies) He smashed everything but didn't aggro on me. He just smashed any campfires I made so I wouldn't die. I killed him the next day.

The second one was the Bearger. He just ate everything, stared at me, and then as soon as I made a remark about him, I didn't need to live anymore. Joke's on him because I led him into a tentacle trap which has survived two (2) giant attacks to this day.

A bearger came along and did a single ground-pound attack in the middle of my base.  And that was the end of that.

I'm a Long time Don't Starve player, but I am new to ROG (Got it last week) How does bearger's AOE building destruction compare to a deerclops? (never seen a bearger)

This is why you always set up a fire pit not too far from the road your base should be built on. That way, you can run over there when you hear the giant spawning, let them spawn in that area, and run back towards your real base! :p

I knew to keep Deerclops away from my base due to vanilla DS. First time I came across the Bearger he looked so cute staring at me. Cute when he was eating my berries, cute when he ate the fruits and veggies from my farms, cute when he started walking towards my bee boxes. Not so cute when he stomped my base into dust. I think I poopped a little then made him chase me to a clearing where I got a few shots on him before he killed me. For resurrected but he was there waiting for me. RIP Wilson!

Oh, the memories. After my first encounter with Deerclops (back in vanilla) I had to rebuild my entire base, but also a pig village nearby. The good thing was that he got me free materials for beehives and killed two advanced spider nests, so that was nice of him.

Other funny story is when I was playing with the DLC some two weeks ago as a Willow (I often randomize character). When I got to the summer I encountered Dragonfly, but I killied him with help of my pig-friends. Later however my entire base burned down because of my characters low sanity level. So yeah, that's pretty ironic.

I heard him coming, I was standing tall with my ice staff and gunpowder at the ready. Then I decided to wander a bit from my base in search of the deerclops.what I came back to was...was... :-( I'm sorry I just can't.. all I remember is Chesters face oblivious to the chaos around him. It was all gone

My base once was burned by the dragonfly. I was a little far from my base and didn't had the proper weapons to kill him, so i ran and when i got on the base, i see him burning my grass farm. I tried to agro him with an ice staff, but that just made him do the AoE attack that burned the rest of the base.

Then i made the shittiest decision of my life, facetank dragonfly. RIP Webber...

Deerclops also spawned right in the midle of my base once, just i was resurecting from an unsucessful walrus battle. He destroyed the chests and killed chester before i manage to kill him.

Have you or your base ever been murdered by a giant?

Yes, I was playing Webber when it happened. I had a Queen's Gathering of spiders (set piece). Four of the spider queens got up and I felt extremely powerful. Then, it just... happened. Deerclops ran out of the woods and killed them all. I tried to kite him, but I was freezing and had 32 hp. He then chased a MacTusk N' Friends until I couldn't find him. He destroyed 2 t3 dens and 4 of my Queens. He also slaughtered my day 36ish base which I was proud of. It took me to day 70 to truly recover because on day 50 or so a Goose/Moose attacked. Thank god he doesn't kill buildings to my knowledge though!

What was your immediate reaction?

First time with Deerclops I thought I could fight him so I was all like:

Then I started to scream "WAIT, NONONONO!" and ran around.

The second time when Goose/Moose fought me I was like:

I then got like 20 spiders and we slaughtered him pretty easily. But, I was way more cautious that time...

What did you learn from the experience?

Being overconfident can lead to your own demise. I thought spider queens were overpowered, but now I know they truly are maybe one of the weakest bosses.
