Bring back caves only!

It's been a really long time since I played it, but I really enjoyed caves only. I would love to have it back. I tired using my game files to make it happen, but it didn't work. Why was it removed anyway? Of course some items weren't craft-able and that caused some problems but could be easily worked around.

You can technically do this.

 

Technically.


Step 1: Make sure you have all 5 presets already filled in for world customization.

Step 2: Make your forest world take up some random preset.

Step 3: Add caves, and customize it.

Step 4: Save the cave preset as the preset number that the forest world is using.

Step 5: Don't click back on the forest world's customizations. Just start the game.

 

You should start in the caves. And what's under these caves?

More caves!!! Isn't that great?! I always wondered "If only there was a way to bring more caves to the caves" and now I can! Hurray.

I don't suppose we could get a picture of the steps? I THINK you mean overwriting the preset used by the overworld...

It still doesn't change the fact I want cave-only servers to have huge caves on the same efficiency level as smaller multi-sharded worlds.

I did it yesterday.

On ANR, I could not use the preset trick, so I just:

generated a two-sharded server,

backed the entire cluster up,

went into the cave cluster and copied the contents,

deleted the overworld cluster's contents and pasted the cave files,

edited (with NotePad++, but just NotePad should do as well) "is master = false" to "is master = true" in the fake overworld cluster.

What it did? We started in the caves. Stairs lead to... a copy of the caves (since the map generated was virtually the same). I need to try generating a single-sharded server, THEN copying some cave cluster inside and making it the master. Maybe this will work.

People interested may request the files, but be aware this is a roleplaying server and by such there are a couple of mods on.

This isn't about finding a sinkhole, be it singleplayer (ruins and caves being on two different levels) or multiplayer, but about a new challenge of having no access to surface resources, AKA no preparation, not even the starting gear in Lights Out. The longer people remain in the fandom, the more own challenges they set for themselves.
