How to avoid dead by Roc+Bats

This is the second time this combo killed me. Roc swoops in, and at the same time bats arrive.

 

First time Roc took me away to his island, where promptly the bats spawned. Dealing with 6 bats, even with a football helmet and a spear, proved hard: nowhere to run (hole is plugged), noone to help.

 

Second time Roc spawned with his feet on me, killing me instantly. I respawned at the magic flower with no items and very low health, where the bats spawned... again pretty hopeless.

 

Do they always spawn together? Is there a way to avoid one, or both?

Can I avoid Roc's foot?

Is there a way to deal with bats on your own?

your first death: Use torch to burn bats to death. I did this with late game bats spawn at Roc island.

Second dead: Run into jungle and Roc can't land. Deal with the bats. Or, as soon as you see Roc, run under it's shadow to trigger the stamp attack and get it over with. I prefer the second solution.

how do you get the Roc to land on you without killing you? whenever i see the shadow flying around, i try to run near its middle so it'll land, but it always ends up killing me even when i have a walking stick. is there a trick to it?

Need to turn 180 degrees as soon as the landing animation begins. Also you can get in/out of cave and avoid any damage for a short instant.

i try to do that but it never seems to work for me, i can never get away in time ): might be because the game slightly lags for me whenever the Roc spawns/lands, which makes it hard to estimate when the lag will stop and the game will continue (it doesnt lag anywhere else, and im playing with more than capable specs)

 

ill try the cave idea though!

now I've died to roc twice:
first as webber, but had a life-giving amulet, so got revived, but immediately after getting revived, roc's head comes down to me, and a pig guard kills me while roc animation plays (webber looking scared, roc mouth opening to reveal its three heads)
and secondly as woodie, bats arrive, and roc arrive, and I get killed by roc.

roc is really really annoying, its the only reason I die after day 30.
and you can prepare for all other threats, but roc, nope, no matter how much armor, it'll kill you in one hit (and if not, you won't have any armor, and usually the roc decides to appear when there's other threats nearby)

Wear both armour and helm provides 92-96% damage reduction, they'll save you from 1000 damage.
