I see you shielded your surface with bunker tiles

Wouldn't it be cheaper to use bunker doors?

No. Absolutely not. Bunker tiles are 100 kg for one square, bunker doors are 500 kg for 4 squares. It takes about 25t steel to cover a map in bunker tiles, and a little more than 31t to cover it in doors. I start with tiles because I don't like the idea of preventable asteroid damage.

Do doors not prevent asteroid damage?

I understand they being more expensive but we are only talking about a 6t difference and as you build and expand the space builds you'll need to use doors anyways

Yeah, they block asteroids just fine. The other side of the issue is that I only recently started Pacu farming, and hadn't ranched at all previously. Even using all the fossil on the map, I wasn't quite able to scrape together the steel I needed for one layer of tile, without many cycles of waiting for ranching to get up to speed.

gotcha, I always start ranching stone hatches as early as possible for coal and eggs, usually I have a fair amount of shells by the time I start producing steel

Question: I was under the impression you built your protection level (doors or tiles) at the top of the build allowed area. This meant the meteorite debris would stack two layers deep in the no build area (red stripes).  This ceiling is built 4 tiles lower, is there a reason? Will debris stack six layers high?
