pacovf
1) Can you shear wild dreckos? 2) Am I the only one having problems with dreckos running out of my ranch? Hatches don't go through doors, yet I have to constantly tell my rancher to wrangle my dreckos back to their room. Fischer_L
Yes, you can shear wild dreckos. but their fiber/scale growth rate a lot slower. Not sure about manual or mechanised lock, but with pneumatic doors i never had escaped drecko for almost 2000 cycles. Sasza22
They tend to jump out when your dupes deliver to something near the door. Like dirt to mealwood farm tiles. The door is open long enough for them to get out. You can, personally I'm shearing only wild glossy ones, but it works and gives a tiny amount of plastic. 47 minutes ago, pacovf said: 2) Am I the only one having problems with dreckos running out of my ranch? Hatches don't go through doors, yet I have to constantly tell my rancher to wrangle my dreckos back to their room. There is a number of ways to avoid or compensate it: Use water to separate drekos from exit/walls - they will attempt not to drawn and can't jump over two tiles of water Since they can't jump over two tiles, you can use a solid line of tiles with two tiles spacing to walls to confine drekos to it, but over half eggs will fall from this line (which is fine if you are ranching - I'm picking dropped ones with automation and the rest is enough to maintain the numbers) Place your door far from plants, drekos are more often near plants Place 'drop off' after exit with 'auto wrangle' Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/98021-two-questions-about-drecko-ranching/#findComment-1109459 Share on other sites

I think that was a big part of it, thanks! 2 hours ago, AndreyKl said: Since they can't jump over two tiles, you can use a solid line of tiles with two tiles spacing to walls to confine drekos to it, but over half eggs will fall from this line (which is fine if you are ranching - I'm picking dropped ones with automation and the rest is enough to maintain the numbers) Like, a loop inside the room, with the shearing / grooming station on top of it? That's clever! Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/98021-two-questions-about-drecko-ranching/#findComment-1109562 Share on other sites
Neotuck
I only tame glossy dreckos and feed them bristle blossoms. I get plenty of reed fiber from wild thimble reed and sheer the ocational wild drecko Main reason I avoid feeding mealwood to glossies is I find it easier to produce extra water than dirt Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/98021-two-questions-about-drecko-ranching/#findComment-1109598 Share on other sites
Carnis
I had some door accidents before with horizontal pneumatic doors on corners. But several hundreds If cycles no escape through regularily placed doors. DaveSatx
I've been using this setup for a few hundred cycles (more than 100 less than 250 i'm not sure. no escapes. Decent production too. could be luck but thought i'd share. I use seives to cool water that is heated by 'tuners so dirt isnt a real issue. I forgot to mention I have a chilled water loop passed through the mealwood tiles one a day for around 20% of the day using a clock sensor. the drecko's are very hot and some of the dirt may be as well. All of my fresh water in the base proper is around 50F; the water feeding into the elecrolyzer setups chills the O2 on the way in as well but i digress. Isn't it fun how there is more than one way to do things Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/98021-two-questions-about-drecko-ranching/#findComment-1110312 Share on other sites
