TheEvilMango
I'm about to be where I am building my first rocket. But idk what I don't know. So can u plz give me as much info on rockets as u can. Particularly the steam rocket as that is the only one I can make. Neotuck
Your first rocket should have as many research modules as you can stack, they are light so a steam rocket should handle it Steam rockets are mostly for gathering interstellar research, you won't be able to gather much resources until you build your first petroleum rocket Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/97831-rocket-info/#findComment-1107212 Share on other sites

At least as long as unexplored planets are in reach with 5 modules, which is a while. tzionut
The max research module you can put on the steam engine rocket is 9, but you will need only 5. dallion
the steam engine can handle 7~8 research module with 10km, you can launch your rocket serval times just for data bank Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/97831-rocket-info/#findComment-1107226 Share on other sites
tzionut
Quote 7~8 research module with 10km Not quite. 900 kg of steam give you 18000 km. The engine weight 2000 and (9 research module + command module) additional 1000 kg. Last time when i check in the development version 3000 kg have a penalty of 8000 km. Gurgel
Oh, and just as an early warning: There is a point where more fuel gives you less reach. Don't remember whether that was true with steam already, but it definitely is true for the petroleum engine. The simulator somebody here did may be very helpful with that. (Of course I had to half-ass it myself and ended up testing 20 or so different loads....) crypticorb
Rocket Calculator! https://oni-assistant.herokuapp.com/ You can use it to determine what modules you can load and how full to make them to get what distance before building them! Sasza22
Remember not to load saves with the rocket in space. It`s buggy atm and causes crashes. Always make a backup save before launching the rocket. Probably best to manually open/clse bunker doors. Rocket detection through the meteor scanner is too slow to open them in time. If they don`t open in time they get destroyed and you lose some steel. Make door automation wires and power wires from tungsten. Gold or iron can melt when using soild boosters or petroleum engines. You need gantries to load solid fuel to boosters or oxydizers. Astronaut will automatically board the rocket after it lands (he falls on the ground on landing) when the gantry gets extended or if he`s wearing a jet suit. Only way to get him out is to assign another one. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/97831-rocket-info/#findComment-1107331 Share on other sites
Neotuck
I haven't tried yet but do rockets fly though open mech doors? I was thinking of trapping the steam/CO2 exhaust for collection while the rocket is away Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/97831-rocket-info/#findComment-1107345 Share on other sites

TheEvilMango
What is the best way to get enough steam. And does it turn back into water while in the rocket? TheEvilMango
Cool. Now what's the best way to deal with the heat and steam left behind by the rocket? (Keep a gas tank inside a vacuume close by to store steam) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/97831-rocket-info/#findComment-1107457 Share on other sites
TheEvilMango
But isn't the steam going to be so hot it would brake even the steel pump? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/97831-rocket-info/#findComment-1107460 Share on other sites
