Achievements

We need achievements. This is why: when I am reading through player posts in forum or steam or watch streams on twitch they often use phrases like "just do" or "that is easy" and often they post some sort of image showing a HUGE setup of something offering a solution for a problem or showing off a huge base with thousands of cargo containers and so on. But this is always the game in god mode. Those players often really think, they are pro players having completly mastered this game, and make us other "normal" players feel like we have no clue from this game.

So, what we need are achievements and of course, they only should be rewarded in survival game mode. I know, the devs might want to add them after the full release but I would advise them to implement it now because it really gets annoying. I also have the feeling the rest of the world doesnt know how hard it is to keep a base up and running for 200 cycles in survival mode. So it would be nice reward.

Besides that, it also is very motivating to go for the achievements.

We could brainstorm some achievements that could be added in the future. Like:

Survive 100 cycles.
Grow all types of plants.
Print all the dupe types.
Reach space.
Complete all research in the tech tree.
Analyze all planets on the starmap.
Liquify hydrogen.

There`s a ton of options and i`m sure they will add a lot of steam achivements once the game is released.

Employ your first duplicant with a occupation.

Have your first dead duplicant (Are you mad?)

Reach Earth.

11. What’s New?

Import an unknown species from any space mission.

12. Burn Baby Burn!

Set fire on something and start a disaster.

13. Industrial Revolution

Build a Molecular Forge.

14. Shiny!

Get any refined metal.

15. Renaissance

Finish 30 paintings or sculptures.

16. Dumb Ways to Suicide - Duplicant Edition

Achieve 5 ways of death. (That’s even mad)

17. Settle Down

Survive 50 Cycles.

18. Hardcore Buster

Finish a game with apocalypse difficulty.

19.Identical Twins

Print two identical duplicants.

20. Town

Having 20 duplicants alive at any givem time.

21. City

Having 40 duplicants alive at any given time.

22. Pirates!

Survive any Pirates attack.

23. Unfriendly visitor

Take down one Intruder Saucer.

24. Last Stand

Survive 20 Pirate attacks.

25. Undestructable Fortess

Survive a Dreadnought attack.

26. Zoologist 

Ranch all species of critters.

Yeah! Cool! I dont see why those achievements are not already implemented :) In my imagination it isnt that much work^^. These achievements could be early access achievements and get deleted at full release or replaced by the real (maybe a balanced) ones - just in case the devs dont want to be comitted to them.

I don`t know how achievements work for early access on steam. I imagine they don`t want to spoil the lore before the full release through achievements. Also the game is still a bit unstable so some achivements might be exploitable. I think it`s wise to wait for full release.

I like the idea of achievements and maybe ingame rewards, buildable exclusive statues/paintings/monuments which are rewarded to players which have completed certain goals in a normal game.

Ohhhhhh pirates, it would be so great to have (Space?)Pirates in the game ! :p

I came to know some great Shantie`s with AC:Black Flag. Still has the best storm waves and ship battles IMHO

Scienctific "Breakthrough": have one of your current scienctist breach the surface.

For science! God damnit.: deconstruct Anti-Enthophy Thermo Nulllifier.

Meteor Incoming!: Have meteor detector and detect incoming meteor shower.

Free day!: have all dupe engage in downtime for a cycle

3 ways from point A to point B: Have ladder, fire pole and working transit tube next to each other.

Solar Empire: Have 3(or more, idk) Solar Panal working at full power at the same time.

We haven't even done that yet: have some material reach absolute zero.

We can shower even if it's hot!: Have water over 50*C pump into shower.

Have all critter: Found all critter.

Each have uniqueness: Found or bred all critter morph.

Just a couple is fine: reach 200 cycle with only 20 dupe or less (my achievement at least)

No heaven or hell here: have dupe reach bottom and top of the map. (Probably too hard for survival?)

Room Sweet Room: have bedroom for all dupe.

I'm not Benjamin Frankin: Harness new power for electricity (if there is one)

No need to PANIC!: use red alert

No! Bad dupe!: have dupe pee themselves.

No stress like, at ALL.: Keep stress of dupe higher than 50 but no stress response for a cycle.

Calm down: one dupe reach breaking point (stress 100) then come back to 0

 

this is all I can think about... for the time being... ;)

Holiday Approved

Give your duplicant a full day break.

BBQ House

Cook a total of 20000Kcal BBQs and have them in your inventory.

Muckroot Uproot

Have all your muckroot uprooted and destroyed or eaten.

Isn't space suppose to be COOL? (pun definitely intended)

I hate to throw a wet blanket on the party, but historically Klei doesn't do achievements.

In fact, they've vehemently fought against having them. In Don't Starve, they don't have any in the steam version, nor on the xbox version, but on the playstation version, they were required to have at least one achievement by Sony.

It's basically a big F U to Sony and the player, by making them use a limited resource to craft a shrine, and turn a crank 25 times, after which you will receive... nothing. From the wiki: "This item was added begrudgingly as a jab at the pointlessness of achievements."

Eventually Klei did cave in and introduced some achievements on consoles, but never steam. I wouldn't expect them to ever have them for ONI.

Yeah...Achievements are often a publisher and/or console manufacturer requirement to release a game on certain console platforms. I never thought much of them, but I do realize that some players like them and its fun to tune in here about it. ONI is a really good game, if there would ever be some - I think I would enjoy completing them. :p

Yoo bad. Achievements are useful for the developers in certain cases. Like in hard games you can see what percentage of players reached a certain point that awards an achievement. Like how many players beat the final boss or something. In ONI achievements would tell them what percentage of the players reached rocket tech.

I fully agree with this idea of achievements being a metric of success in a game, it's why I 100% certain games like Dark Souls, Half-Life 2, or Portal. Not everyone has the skill or persistence to surmount that last challenge, or outlast incredible odds against you.

Klei doesn't seem to agree in all cases though.

Yes, normally Klei won't implement achievement. But as Sasza22 said, it does have it own purposes, telling them how many people able to achieve some achievement so they can adjust their difficulty. You wouldn't want a game that too hard that people were throwing the towel. And at the same time, it shouldn't be too easy that people get bore of it.

Achievement also give people a sense of accomplishment, even if it eventually pointless (like that accomploshine... still somewhat salty about that...).

So, if they would add an achievement, that's great. But if they don't, it's their choice. Doesn't matter.
