Don't crybaby my man. If you win enjoy it, if you don't, appreciate the fact you almost got this for free, not paid

Strictly speaking this beta is for bug reports, not pleasure anyway. (Not that it's a crime to want to play it for fun).

What would they be stress testing? It's an offline game.

Maybe stress test is the wrong term. I just think it would be a lot more effective if they made the beta publicly available using the beta client feature in steam.

the biggest reason is because if everyone can play it, there is no point releasing it later on.

This is about the beta. Beta implies the game isn't fully finished yet but playable. I'm sure that we're not signing up to get the full thing and there will be restrictions or features that won't be implemented until the game actually comes out.

15 days is a pretty long time for a lot of people to play a game and feel like they've completed it and don't want to purchase the full game. And they don't want to expose the entire population to a beta build. On the other hand, they still need Beta testers, and crowd sourcing it is the cheapest way to get the most testers needed.

Initial impressions matter a lot, even if people try hard to keep in mind that they shouldn't. It's too big a gamble to give it to everyone. That said, I don't know why everyone is anxious, 5-10K is a lot of testers, and if you have Shipwrecked your chances are apparently higher.

They got problems in the past with content so popular that they got too many feedback, at the point when reading the forum was taking too much time, and making the process of extracting useful information more difficult. Not even mentioning that players are in a big need for attention, and they want contact between devs and them, like in "good ol days" of Don't Starve Beta. This is totally impossible now that the community is so big. With a closed beta, it's only unrealistic.

JoeW will post here when the distribution of key will start. So no need to ask for now, when it will start, you'll see it instantly with all the excited posts here :)

Are we there yet?

Are we there yet?

Are we there yet?

:p

I'm also really excited about the beta and hope to participate, but have some patience guys!  The launch can still take a few hours. Why not go and play some DS till then, just for the feeling ;)

Where did you hear that?

What do you mean with "less playing"? As far as I know less playing and features that aren't in the game by choice because the game isn't finished go hand in hand.
