Hydrofan should use ice

Recommended Posts

Hydrofan is somewhere on the bottom of the chest of things you want to build. It doesn`t really provide too much cooling, requires dupe operation and uses water on top of that. The water goes nowhere and the cooling it provides doesn`t make much sense either.

So my idea is: Let it use ice.

What`s the difference? It would cool the area and use the heat to melt the ice. Once melted it would leave a water bottle equal mass of the melted ice. It could actually continue cooling until the water inside isn`t the same temperature as the air around it. Then it would require more ice to be delivered. (wouldn`t work in sub 0oC enviroments)

It would not only serve a cooling purpose but would also be a good way to melt some ice easily as we all know melting tonnes of ice in storage takes a long time.

You can already do this thing with ice statues. Or storage compactors including ice. Apart from the bottling of course.

What would be the benefit of this? Ice is argueably even harder to get than water, so why make an already low desireable device even less desireable by increasing its requirements?

i will talk about JUST ME, currently if i find an early small ice biome with 1 or 2 wheezworts and i want to cool a hot area/building with out moving it to the tiny ice biome, i collect ice/snow and store it in a storage compactor that act as a temp wheezwort. even better, i've been cooling my rushed plastic compressor this way.

what i am trying to say is ... not only i don't use hydrofan. but IF i do get to find ice biome with or with out wheezworts. then i really will NOT use the hydrofan. they need to make that thing way more convenient.

for a person who live in a hot country. we do use air conditioners outdoors that are literally just a fan that pass air through cooler water and the results are fantastic, yes that water will vaporize over time, but the machine does it job and its not water hungry, you could fill it once a day if the thing is running 24/7. unlike ONI, and it use power to just keep the fan spinning nothing else.

Implement the Ice idea, give it an option to consume the water, or bottle it for more ice. and let us hook it to the power grid. it shouldn't give much heat energy. either ways players will always use wheezworts when available, and they seem to be in infinite number at the next update.

Edit: I hate to say this since i depend on wheezworts a lot, but may be they finally need a drawback to them.

It would be more effective than ice satues and storage compactors. It would allow you to cool the area really fast as well as melt the stored ice faster than waiting for the statue to melt. I think one operation cycle from a dupe should melt the ice equalizing temperature between the fan and the enviroment. It shouldn`t take too much ice just so the temperature doesn`t drop too fast.

I just want the thing to not waste resources. It will also give some kind of use to dug up ice outside making statues.

What if it's too hot for wheezeworts, like a room with a trapped wheezewort cooling a steam vent or plastic press? And, also, at the cost of petroleum, glass, oxygen, and tenured scientists/exosuit engineers, all that, topped with steel, make rocketing off to space undesirable unless steel production is high and you have dupes to spare.

I have long believed this, the device is useless if it deletes water, melting water is what makes sense.  Ice delivered manually, and a output pipe port for the melted water.  No messy water running everywhere as would with a sculpture.

Maybe there would actually be some nice automation/conveyor setups if we could get rid of the manual operation.

+1

as i said i never use them, but i understood from this thread that people using them to turn gas into liquid which is something wheezwort can't do by it own. putting a dupe to manually operate a freezer room for a long period of time is stressful with out exosuits .
