Youtubers please stop putting solar panels on top floors

Recommended Posts

If/When solar panels would/will be normal buildings like everything else I would do the same^^ (Metal tiles under the panel and one row temp shift plates to operate the solar panel in a vacuum)

(Solar panels don´t interact with tempshiftplates behind them, so a floor under the panel wouldn´t even be able to move the heat away in a vaccum)

Putting them on the surface without some sort of protection will be somewhat of a problem.  Better if you have them behind glass and bunker doors.  And if you're doing that, then you might as well have an atmosphere in there, which makes it easier to keep them cool.

But you can't make an atmosphere in the vacuum. Where most people are putting solar panels currently

Yeah but with or without glas above, it means we need to build our solar panels beneath the new space biome.

My problem wasn´t the usability of solar panels, more the fact that the solar panel is the ONLY build in the game using this heat transfer mechanic. (For new players it´s hard to understand which buildings conduct heat and which buildings/pipes/tempshift plate interact with which other building/tile)

I noticed in the recording from the stream that the large Battery placed on the Solar Panel line also began taking overheat damage.

They also stated that they are looking to actually allow the player to construct "back wall" to prevent the vacuum of space from absorbing gases or liquids above the surface.  They aren't sure how they want it to play out currently, which might scrap the whole thing.

Solarpanels need a coolant input (radiant pipes), but for now they are not interesting for me, because of low energy output and complicated setup.
