Question: how do you explore the map?

Recommended Posts

I have 2 doors behind my exosuit docks, one for dupes going in and one for dupes going out.

I use a daytime sensor on the door for dupes to enter my base, so i  prevent my dupes entering the base for the first half cycle most of the time i want to explore larger areas. (While inside their suits oxygen/bladder/heat are no real problems, if my dupes idle somewhere outside.)

First, switch to advanced priority mode. Make sure you have at least two dedicated miners with no conflicting priorities. Make sure you have at least two dedicated architects with no conflicting priorities. Turn off auto-prioritize.

You need dupes with a high athletics score. Cross train every single one of them into exosuit engineer first, then tenured scientist (with high Learning they will passively skill up Athletics faster)

I tend to dig along abysalite layers so I don't disrupt biomes.Sure it takes it's sweet time but has various benefits

Abysalite layers are 4squares thick. Digging the middle 2 layers leaves 1 layer on each side for future use if necessary and protecting your mine shafts from heat and germs. And protecting ice biomes from melting

As soon as diggers reach LVL 2 they are sent down the mines digging precious abysalite. LVL 1 miners are kept inside the base for digging out the rest(lower tier minerals). When they reach LVL up some miners are freed for other work.

If the digging site is far from base I use a power wheel+bat+deoxidizer for o2 automated with pressure sensor at around 750. Don't forget pneumatic doors for regulating who comes in and to keep the airpocket where it should be

My dupes keeps running back to the base making the progress very very slow? Do you know a good way to uncover the map quickly?

Yes, they are.

Sometimes I build door and lock one dup on the other side until night (if there are some breathable gas of course).

its a matter of priorities, dig as @onebit shows and you can put your ladder and pole in that column afterwards.  Secondly, are you specilizing your dupes are going with super dupes(all purpose)?  If specilizing, then use a door to prevent your ranchers/cooks from digging and your diggers from working in the gardens etc, lastly, come up with a mobile break room idea, something simply, 2 rooms, 1 bathroom, 1 rec/food room so that dupes head "next door" instead of running "back to base".  Lastly, lean on your priorities for me digging and building are almost the last thing dupes do so they always run back to base if something comes up but often do multiple actions while they are out and about because everything was done when they left the base and basically stayed done.  The real problem with your setup is likely that sending out your explorers is causing a work deficit in some other area that is snowballing towards a base wide collapse, so to try to prevent this the dupes do one thing then go back to base to catch up on their work there..

I probe short distances in to caustic biomes in the early game. They have everything you need to build an outpost aside from water.

Algae for the oxygen, iron for power, igneous rock for tiles and ladders etc, bleach stone for hand sanitizers. You can go with a couple of outhouses due to the lack of water at first.

Once I have a little outpost with basic facilities I can probe further out while also working on expanding the main base to encompass the outpost. Basically the whole asteroid becomes the base as I expand in many directions. Spread your power, gas, liquid and other infrastructure as you move out. You will eventually need it.
