Or "hatch guard tile", I guess.  A game version of the real life cattle guard (cattle grid, stock grid, stock gap, etc):

It would be part of the "ranching" research area and would be made from raw metal.  Hatches would refuse to walk on it, so two of them in a row would block off a hatch's movement.  Gas, liquids and light would pass through a hatch guard tile, and it would lower decor, like a Mesh Tile, but unlike a mesh tile duplicant movement speed over it would.  Also, most buildings requiring a foundation could not be built on it, unlike other tiles.

Or we could also get dogs in the printer along with dupes - the Dupe's Best Friend Upgrade!

Could give a stress de-buff when near dupes. They would have a limited set of jobs they could perform, but in a different manner.

  • Combat - the bite attack
  • Dig - with their paws instead of tools
  • Tidy/Supply - fetch and bring to storage/jobs
  • Ranch - guard your stables and prevent animals from leaving
  • Wrangle - maybe a new way to catch flying animals?

For all the benefits, would also have drawbacks. Like flatulence, or eating food left on the floor, or peeing. Stress response could be barking loudly, biting dupes, waking up sleepers when needing to go for a walk at night, scratching at doors.
