Hatch Overcrowding - way too extreme?

Recommended Posts

I'm just starting to delve into Ranching, and have set up my first stables. I wrangled 7 hatches which were around my base and gave them a lovely new home. But my first stable was overcrowded. So I made two stables and split the hatches between them - see screenshot below.

They are still overcrowded! Even though one has only 3 hatches and almost 10 squares of stable per hatch. I saw someone say earlier you may need as much as 12 spaces per hatch. Is this still the case? If so, this seems pretty ridiculous, you'd need vast stables just to house say 10 hatches - not to mention that the max stable size is 90. That means only 8 hatches for a huge room.

I get that if you upgrade your beasties via ranching then their output probably gets quite powerful. The space requirements seem a bit over the top right now though. What do you think?

All overcrowded :(

I've gone for 4x4 rooms per hatch. Gives enough room, plus space for grooming, feeding and in the future a sweeper arm :D

Can you get sweepers to work?  I have a 8 priority feeder and a 5 priority compactor (on sweep but that should not matter) and it will not load the hatch feeders.

Each hatch needs 12 spaces of room, the max room size is 96 so you'll get a max of 8 hatches with a 8x12 room.

Hatches are easy though. Puffts are driving me nuts. I made a snaking PW deposit with ~24 or so meshed tiles and my 4 Puffts are still constantly starving. I think i'll have to do something like a PW compactor and pump an entire swamp biome into the pufft pen for it to actually work.

Are they really starving? Is it the same like for the slicksters? Permanent warning pops up, clicking onto the critter / 10/9.9 cycles left..

No, they can live like that perpetually. That is not the issue.

They produce as much slime as they are consume po2, which means that if i can get more in the area, the slime production is going to go up as well. It also means that if i want to use the puffts for the Slime, like i use the hatches for coal, conventional building strats are going to be fairly constrictive.

So pho2 compressor it is.

Different creature needs different space.

Different from most types of room, you can build industrial machines in stable.

But I prefer to to build dozens of storage compactors.

Well the size is not too bad. Granted that if you only wish to use the stable space to stuff animals, it can feel quite empty, but sometimes you just gotta make use of the extra space

Open those doors - it'll save your rancher a little time and still keep your room bonus.
