Survival mode super storage

Recommended Posts

Compactors work in any condition, buried, submerged, floating, they don't care.
The Concept: Floor to ceiling compactor super storage center
How?: Abysallite compactors where steps will be desired. (requires completely planning out the compactor room and leaving behind just abysallite compactors floating in all the key places.
Fill the room with magma.  Cool it.  Begin mining everywhere except where you want to keep your floating stepstones with recessed compactors  :D
Backfill with compactors as you go, enjoy your new super storage center.

phosphorite may be a good alternative, should have thought of that before :D

on the plus side using phosphorite means you could build out the room in compactors of obsidian, flood, freeze, carve properly.  I think the spacing could be wider as well. I know as many as 5 spaces between ladders is safe, 6 is right at the border of dupe reach left:right

nothing I build is ever in its final form.  I'm always open to ways to improve so if you have any advice I welcome it.

And what exactly is wrong with just building them the regular way?

Build top row. Remove floor. Build next row. Rinse repeat.

Kabrute's done this to maximize storage space per tile by negating the need for ladders. The igneous steps can be climbed as well as utilized for storage.

It's ridiculous, but that's what makes it fun.

I know that but you don't need to fill up the room for that. Just fill it one step at a time without all the hassle.

People generally do it with cold storages to kill germs though and use water frozen into ice. Just keep the room at -2 to -5C'ish and you'll be fine.

The important thing is the abyssalite storage compactors.

by the way, if you have any over the top ideas I'd love to hear them.  This was the first thing to get me going since you smashed on my mealwood farms :D

I've seen the ice block storage idea before. But doing it with magma was new. I just don't see why you needed to fill the entire room with magma when you only need to fill the two tiles with a compactor in on each level. Could use a bottle emptier.

Sorry if I rained on your parade.

no rain, sunshine, simplification. tubes filled with phosphorite are compactor warm storage, no melting.  Yours is great for germ killing though, sweet setup.

the new plan is to use phosphor instead of igneous for the stairs because you can work with it at cooler temperatures thus don't need abysalite compactors, combined with your tube approach its genius, quick, easy, thanks.
