Double checking electrical/tansformer capability

Pretend I have a massive generator base magically producing 100KW on one loop.and pretend a moment that said loop isn't vanishing into a fine fiery golden mist instantly due to way too much wattage...

 Then let's say my main base's central trunk feed is all conductive heavi-watt wire (max cap 20KW), in theory, I should be able to take 4 transformers and step down/convert the 100KW loop to fully feed the 20KW base trunk, yes?  And then use individual step-down transformers to go from that 20KW main feed to the individual conductive wire circuit loops, yes?  And theoretically this would do this "safely" without sudden wire splodey-ness? (Hey, that's a technical term...)

 IE: For A = 100KW source, B = 20KW trunk, C = 4 KW local circuit, and T = transformer, we have something like:
A ->(Tx4)->B->(T)->C

Just tested, transfomer was putting out 10 kW maximum.

Wait... what? How do you get 10 safely? 5 was making sense but this does not to me.

I don't know what you mean by "safely".  I imagine the devs changed some lines of code, and now they transmit 10 instead of 4 kW.since the transformer still has a max capacity of 1000J, that means the transformer is filling and emptying 10x, right?  So if we've been told it emptied/filled once per tick before now, the easiest assumption is that now there are 10 ticks per second--but that's just an assumption, and I only tested it at 3x speed.

From what I understood was the game use to refresh 4 times a second they increased the refresh rate to 5 times per second. When the transformer would allow 1000j/tick it went from 4000j safety to 5000j.

 

But maybe I don’t understand it at all.

Because there are batteries behind the transformer.

And the things many players did't know is, even before the OC upgrade, a battery could double the transformer's output. I guess, the reason is that a transformer provide 1000j to machine and another 1000j to batteries in every tick.

So the output of the transformer was [4 times 1kw without battery], or [8kw with one or more batteries] before OC.

I couldn't remember whether I had said something about 8kw before OC upgrade. But I'm sure that I've said 5kw new limit in OC preview more than one month ago, though I didn't know the reason at that time.

At that time, i did a roughly test. Though I found that the 4kw upgraded to 5kw, but batteries didn't double the output, so I didn't mention 8kw or 10kw.

 

I'm confused why the transformer couldn't provide 10kw at that time, maybe there were some mistakes in my experiment. Anyway, thank you for letting us know the batteries still can double the output of transformer.

yeah, i know what you mean.  I honestly thought I'd tested the battery thing myself but I looked at my old screenshots and it looks like I hadn't.  I was  kidding about the secret thing, I mean I hadn't heard about it but it's not really  important enough to post about eight times to make sure no one misses it.  It is good that you solved the mystery here though :)

Yeah we are basically bottle necked by the 2KW wire. Sure you can put heavy watt wire behind the transformer to get to 10KW, but why use a transformer to begin with in that case.

Interesting numbers though. Could be a bug technically.

The only reason would be if you are running more than 10 kW of machines on your mainline.
