Asteru
Greetings, I’ve been having a hell of a time the past week on the preview branch with starvation. Last update I was able to adapt to the new food requirements stabilize fairly easy each game with food, but something is throwing me for a loop this one really early and I can’t figure outwhat I’m doing wrong. I have 88 meal lice plants going for the past 50 cycles and at 9 dups, which should only need 45 even if we add a 20% buffer to that I’m still well above the required amounts. I had 11 dupes but two died to starvation. Anyway, I’m not seeing them stifled, except 2-3 plants that occasional get hit with a chlorine packet that will not go away, and only time I see any not harvested quickly is at night. I have 2 farmers dedicated and a rancher as his next highest priority set to farming. I’ve now been at 9 dups for the past 10 or so cycles and getting food shortage alerts repeatedly still. At this point I should be surprising food away fairly easy and not getting food storage/starvation warnings. Oh and I also have 10 hatches in two separate rooms popping out eggs for omelets when I can too. Ony thing i can think of is with the new job priority where people are dedicated to jobs, they’re simply not being focused as much as in the past, but I just doesn’t seem that way since I have essentially 2.5 focused on it, and have it as the next highest job for the rest of the dups who are usually off busy building stuff normally. My stress hovers around 10 percent as well, and no one is binge eating. This is now my 3rd time this week having dups die when I should have an abundance of food and I’m kind of stuck for why that is. Any ideas of what I can look at or try to help me get over this hump? I’m more frustrated I think now because I haven’t typically run into issues until 4-500 cycles in and here I am with dying dupes at 50-100 cycles. Kabrute
I start with meal lice but bristle berries are the current meta in their various incarnations. Cooking bristles is crucial now as it adds "free" calories stretching the meals. Screen shots coming when I have 3x more gristles than loaf, I turn on gristles for everyone till it evens back out lastly, greenhousing, best used on the bristles, I'm not using it because I don't "need" it though it would save me water in the long run and speed up food production in the short. Mariilyn
88 meal lice plants is a huge amount of crops. I've never had so much plants even in my 24-dupe base. It would be more efficient to go with less and making sure they are buffed with farmer's touch and (not the mealwood) to cook the meal lice. Do you have a screenshot of your base? Soulwind
Can't buff mealwood. But yes, 88 is really way too much. You need to be at the VERY least making liceloaf out of them. And you should switch to berries as soon as feasible. Cooking to gristle berries (or stuffed berries if you have access to lots of wild pepper plants) is pretty important too. I tend to start with 6 berry plants in planters around the dupe portal and then plant 16 or so meal wood plants once I've got farm plots. I turn off raw ingredients and only allow them to eat liceloaf and gristle berries. After a while I add in mushrooms (fried) and then when I've got hydroponics I build full berry farms, taking advantage of the base-wide radiator system I normally install for cooling. Right now at least, I know that once I get through a full harvest cycle of the berry plants, food issues are done (barring disasters). Rotintin
This sounds like spoilage to me, but I assume you're growing in C02. A stray hatch or two can be really detrimental to food supply too. Are you checking your reports? Neotuck
I never use meal lice long term. I tend to rush a bristle blossom greenhouse as soon as possible for Gristle Berry production. I got this one setup by cycle 30. 14 blossoms in a greenhouse is more than enough to support 8 dupes though mid tier. And wild pincha peppernuts keep my tenured scientist happy with stuffed berries. wachunga
88 meal lice is sufficient for 17 dupes. If 9 are starving, it's due to a problem beyond switching to liceloaf or bristle blossom. He needs to provide the full calorie generation report (click the arrow to expand the report) and a screenshot of the farm to determine what's going on.
