ONI - A Guide to sleet Wheat grain farming

Recommended Posts

I've been mentioned here about 5 times - and have yet to have my morning (afternoon) coffee... What's going on here :p

In response to @BlueLance on the current playthrough I wanted to try and use all the different power means, but also keep things so I could toggle which fuel I wanted to use as my primary... I.e. If my hatches have made me an excess of coal - then feel free to burn that first, if my hydrogen is plentiful, burn that too, etc.

I'm of the old school of thought in terms of power - that is to say I like to keep my grid simple :

Power generation -> main battery bank -> transformers -> individual circuit battery -> profit -> prom queen

Here's a few pics to explain - but I've kept it as simple as possible using pretty much just the smart batteries to control things (they're smart after all)... I suppose I could have used more complex automation and less batteries to achieve the same thing, but that....well, that sounds dumb as hell to me :D

Here's the current overview : image.thumb.png.ace354f059c35593f594bad7cd690709.png

I did have a couple of bugs with power gen in this latest update (not the pre-release) whereby heavy-watt joint plates were being buggy knoblords (widely known about) and more recently intermittent natural gas gens (caused by CO2 pipe merging issue - an old bug, but back in the last update). These caused me to basically be relying solely on coal and hydrogen for maybe 100 cycles in a pretty large, and power hungry base - but now they're fixed I seem to have no issue with power whatsoever.

@LifegrowThank you for posting, this is very very helpful.  How do you keep this cool?  I see hydrogen in a lot of rooms but don't see cooling except weezies in the hydrogen generator room?  What am I missing?

You're very welcome.

Both the hydrogen gen room and the coal gen rooms have a couple of metal tiles transferring their cooling.

The coal gen room is cooled by 20 degree polluted water in a radiator, the same polluted water is being dropped over my petroleum gens, and natural gas gens. This water is cooled by an aquatuner (you can see it below the natural gas storage) which gets split to drip 1kg/s over the petrol gens, and the rest gets dripped back over the aquatuner itself, and then overflows down the sides over the natural gas gens, mixing with the output water from the petroleum gens...

Convoluted - but I wanted to try and tie all my power gen together in this playthrough :D

To stop the room from flooding, excess polluted water that's generated by the petroleum gens and natural gas gens get's skimmed off the top occasionally with this hydro switch/liquid shut off below - and gets sent to the polluted water storage tank in my base.

It's not perfect, but it was built organically over the course of the playthrough, so first came hydrogen gens, then coal gens, then natural gas gens, and finally petrol gens. It's lasted for 800ish cycles so far, so it's working well enough for me :D
