johnruby
I currently have a colony lasting for 400+ cycles. I started to mainly feed Stuffed Berry to my dupes 300 cycles ago. Since Stuffed Berry works pretty well, I focused on planting Bristle Blossom and Pincha Pepper, abandoned my Mealwood farm, and lost interest to farm other species like Sleet Wheat and Dusk Cap. But it seems pretty inhumane to feed the same food to dupes for hundreds of cycles. Although I'm not a newbie player anymore, and my dupes are treated and protected fairly well, I think the standard for human dignity (dupe diginity?) should rise along with the standard of living. Therefore I suggest that if dupes have been eating the same food for more than 15 or 30 cycles, they should gain a negative status called "Tired of (insert food name)", for example "Tired of Stuffed Berry." This status makes the food's quality drop for 2 or 3 points for the dupe, therefore forcing players to find other food source. Maybe this status could also make other food's quality increase 1~2 points? Because when you're tired of one thing, other things start becoming more attractive (I guess). The effect of the status could become stronger if players ignore it and keep feeding the same food. Another suggestion is that dupes should gain various Food Preference when their attributes reach certain level, or when they master certain job, for example "Pepper is Love, Pepper is Lives (for Pepper Bread)","I'M PICKLE RIIIICK (for Pickled Meal) (forgive me)". Player won't know dupes' preference until they satisfy certain condition and start showing preference. Food Preference should increase the preferred food's quality and decrease other food's quality for the dupe. This can also make players diversify food source, and make each dupe more unique and distinctive. #DupeLivesMatter Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/88582-dupe-being-tired-of-certain-food-food-preference-advanced-food/ Share on other sites

johnruby
Another suggestion about food is that, there should be more variety of intermediate product. Dupe can cook A ingredient into B food, then cook B food into C food, which is much better than B food. For example. Dupe can make Hatch's meat into Hatch Salami, then make Hatch Salami and Sleet Wheat Grain into Salami Pizza. Currently players can only make Mush Bar into Mush Fry. I have this suggestion because many cooking simulator games have this feature, and it does make sense (to some degree). Furthermore, currently there's only two tier for cooking job. I suggest that there should be multiple branches for tier 3 cooking job. For example, Fryer can make advanced fried food, Poissonnier can make advanced fish cuisine (if there's any fish animal in the future). Mummifier can make food unable to rot (in case that devs make CO2/CL2/H2 unable to 100% preserve food). Lastly, advanced food, which is prepared by tier 3 Cook using intermediate food, should not only possess the highest quality (+6 or +7), but also give dupes various positive status. Maybe some of them can temporarily give dupes extra speed, max Stamina, max Immune System Strength, or make them more attractive to animals. Since preparing advanced food is very costly, players should carefully decide which advanced food should feed to which dupe to maximize the potential outcome. Some people might think all these suggestions only unnecessarily complicate the food system, and make the system look like a clicker-game. But since the roadmap wrote by devs clearly shows that deeper tech tree will be implemented, the food system, as a part of the tech tree, should gain more advanced contents too. Besides, advanced food also could help diversify different dupes with different traits, advantages and disadvantages. Alfons100
Ehh... not so positive on this idea. There are not a lot of foods in the game to begin with, so this literally puts a time limit to jump from food type to food type. Since it is obviously -progression based- in what food you have. Early game- mealwood and mushbar Midgame- Bristleblossom and Duskcap Lategame-Sleetwheat Optional to all of these- Peppernut (And now there's meat and eggs) So there's not a lot of options you are given, and you progress depending on how many dupes you want, or their respective Job. You can literally live entirely without water by only living off Meal lice (It is a challenge, but is possible). Adding a feature where they get sick of the same food will put a time-limit, where the current system has a 'take it at your own rate, get better/more food for better productvitiy too', while this only literally forces you onto the next phase of food. Wether you like it or not. However, it depends on if they want to add more food plants to begin with. If that were the case, maybe this feature would make sense, but not in this case. ImpalerWrG
By simply making late game recipes that use multiple ingredients we give the player the same incentive to have a large number of different raw food types being produced. Foods of quality 2 and 3 should have at least two ingredients Foods of quality 4 and 5 should have at least three ingredients Currently Eggs and Meat break this rule as the Omelette and BBQ are higher then this formula would describe, but they are so hard to get I could let them slide. But the Frost Bun, Pepper Bread and Stuffed Berry are too high in quality and should be modified, particularly the Berry as one of its ingredients is available in the starting Biome. I say Stuffed Berry at q3 and reduce pepper needed to 1 Frost Bun becomes q2, gives more calories and becomes an input to new recipes that are q3+ Pepper Bread goes to q3 and requires 2 pepper Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/88582-dupe-being-tired-of-certain-food-food-preference-advanced-food/#findComment-1014440 Share on other sites
