Best heat generating machine location ?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Simple question, where do you plug your coal generator in the early game?

(switch from dupe's powered base to first generator phase)

1) near actual power line/consumer (owen, O2 gen, research facility) for simplicity (at a rick of more heat on the same spot)

2) on top of base, since heat goes up

3) you fool, it should be at the bottom, because a coal generator produces CO2!

4) to the left or right close/at the border of another biome (producing heat within heat rather than within the main base)

5) anywhere, solution (4) will be used later, always good to construct and deconstruct

6) in the chlorine cave (down right on the picture) so it should be easy to drip polluted water on it to cool it down

This is a half truth. There is no convection, but there is vertical conduction. Cold does conduct down and heat does conduct up. Put it in the corrosive biome. I just tried putting it in the slime biome and found out that CO2 spreads slimelung, got my entire CO2 pool in my base contaminated....

About this conduction, that's for germs only?

As for non-convection, produced heat at the top of a base will not move... but CO2 does, so ...

generator heats, produce CO2, hence hot CO2, .. and off goes hot CO2 down the base (heavier than O2) = all base heated from top to bottom?

kuruko, I think I'll go with your sugestion...

Heat experiment,

t=0 (cycle 29) base temp 24.4 °C

t=1 (cycle 31) temperature 25.4 °C

t=2 (cycle 33) temperature 26.2 °C

t=3 (cycle 35) temperature 27.2 °C

t=4 (cycle 39) temperature 28.5 °C

t=5 (cycle 41) temperature 29 °C

@Argelle

Hi argelle, I think you should consider enclosing your generators in abysalite. As you've observed they heat the surrounding gasses quite a bit and you have no real separation between base oxygen and the bottom co2.

For repositioning. I would never put a generator inside the green or yellow green area in thermal overview. This is sacred land where you don't have to cool to grow food every bit you loose is a double loss.

Cheers

I may indeed enclose it, while waiting to move it away. EDIT: YEA! :)@Yoma_Nosme Nice, neat and simple idea of ours, it's working!

It is indeed getting hotter each minute cycle, and I'm so traumatised by germs in other biomes (RIP little previous dupe colony..) that I'm only moving very cautionnely away from home biome.

Legend: temperature evolution around CO2 generator. No isolation.

Legend: temperature evolution inside abyssalite case (bleu) and just outside (green). isolation built on cycle 43.

PS: I just love this game for the feeling of satisfaction it gives as I try some simple experiment... and get positive feed back from the nice community here.
