Farming - Hydroponic Farm - Mealwood

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I would like to know if, by any means, it is worthed to use the Hydroponic Farm tile over the standard Farm tile when growing things like Mealwood that does not require water but only fertilization (Dirt). And is it possible to automate Dirt? I have not found a way. Please let me know your conclusions!

Well you won't be wasting water since the mealwood doesn't consume water. It will just sit in the tiles unused.   But you will be tying up a bunch of metal for no reason. And it's pointless to try and make a greenhouse for mealwood too since it can't be boosted.

Because mealwood don't takes water hydro tiles will say no pipe input. Just put in a piece of pipe, doesn't have to be connected to a pump - or your mealwood won't grow in hydro tiles

I would build hydro tiles if you are in your designated farming room because you can use it later for bristle farm. Otherwise just build what you like.

If I had to decide between farming tiles (green) and planter box, I'd go with the tiles because you can use them as floor tiles and put paintings above (Usually the roomhight is 4 tiles) so you may counter the negative decor since in early base dupes may path though your farm :D
