Semi-Renewable base idea with Natural Gas Generators

Recommended Posts

I got an idea about how a semi-renewable base could be made by using Natural Gas Generators. Can some professional at this game make sure it'd work?

I'm gonna skim over the main ideas of the system.

Natural Gas Geysers

A few natural gas generators are connected to a natural gas geyser for unlimited gas to fuel them. Quite simple.

Carbon Dioxide waste

The carbon dioxide released is pumped into a chamber, where it becomes oxygen by using Algae Terrariums. This oxygen is then pumped around the base to release oxygen. However, this might not make enough. The semi-renewable comes in when algae is needed to fuel the terrariums- Algae isn't produced in this system.

Polluted Water waste

The waste polluted water is dropped through mesh tiles to a collector that pumps it to a storage area, where it's then sieved into clean water. The clean water can then be used to fuel water-needing things such as sinks, showers, lavatories and possibly electrolyzers

NOTE- a lot of natural gas generators are needed.

Natural gas geysers just don't make enough gas for even the best case way of converting their product into oxygen (burn gas, void the CO2, off-gas the polluted water into polluted oxygen) to keep your dupes breathing.

Just in general algae terraria are staggeringly inefficient, they voraciously devour water and still require algae input on top of that. They are only useful for giving oxygen pit stops in long mineshafts before you have exosuits.

That's probably just a fraction bigger than it needs to be to be honest. And are you sure there's enough diamond on a standard map to make that many thermal shift plates?

lol yeah, I don't think I would be doing it this way in a real game.  Just been playing with renewable loops lately, and tried to make this one more compact than my last attempt.

If you have a showcase of a version of yours, shoot it, that would be very instructional I'm sure!  ;)

The amount of plates is very overkill indeed.  I'm sure I could do with much fewer, temp is crazy cold right now, more than needed. But it seems  to work and be balanced so I kept it this way for now.
