How to cool oxygen from electrolyzers ?

Recommended Posts

Is there an easy way of cooling the oxygen from the electrolyzers ?

My approach is: Abyssalite pipes with normal vents on the top of my base and 2 Wheezeworts underneath them on air tiles (~25°C).  The air is pre-cooled with a thermo regulator to ~53°C (2 Wheezeworts).

At the bottom of my base I have a similar setup, using the oxygen that passes the first two vents (as the pressure from normal vents is not high enough to push the oxygen all the way down past my Meatwood farms)

However, I wonder if there is a easier or more efficient way, than using 2 Wheezeworts on the top, 2 on the bottom and 2 with the thermo regulator

Note: I was not able to build high pressure vents yet

I like to build my electrolyses setup inside the first cold biome I find, pump it from the electrolyzers to a storage tank in the cold biome with a few wheezeworts inside then tank, then pump it from the tank to my base when the tank is at an acceptable temperature and pressure. This way your cooling an already cold area, not trying to cool the oxygen in your warm base.

My duplicants are very picky about base temperature and dont allow any other gases in base than pure oxygen and i am extremely lazy monitoring things manually...

so my mid/late game oxygen setups:

old one, wheezeworts heavy stetup:

Quite stable, pumping out with max speed (the upper pressure switch is set 700g so pumps wount waste power) temperature goes max ~25C, pumping out less may take some heating to keep above 20C

New stetup:

Extremly stable system. Temp switch in middle for HCTDD is set 20C and outgoing oxygen temp is between 20-23C, depending on cooling device fluctuation and proximity of gas pump....

Here's how I cool my base.

Oxygen is now coming out around 22 Celsius after going through the Thermo regulator. Eventually I'll have to pull the wheezeworts out and shut down the thermo regulators.

There are 6 wheezeworts used to cool the room down which I've circled in the picture. The 7th circle is not a wheezewort but it's being cooled by the ice biome. I'll eventually replace the two side doors with insulated tiles though; the Right door to contain the heat and the Left door once everything is cooled down.

I try to have my cooling systems serve multiple purposes if possible that's why it's right above the natural gas generators. Oh, and I also water cool everything. With the new Tempshift Plates it's also great for distributing heat evenly around the room; I will be adding those around the batteries.

Odd...  I generally don't have to do much to cool my Oxy supply.  I normally just plant a Weezewort immediately next to each one.  The trick is to use Abyssalite Insulated Pipes from the Geyser supply to them, preventing heat transfer from the pipes to the base it flows through to reach the Electrolyzers.

Trying a new approach in my current base, though.  I tweaked the setup Brothgar has in his Megabase.  He's a bit scatter brained, but he's very good about achieving practical min-max.

Nice setups all together !

I finally decided to use the ingame HAVC option: I just placed  3 of them in line in my NatGas-tower and let them being cooled by the waste water.

The Oxygen itself leaves the system at comfortable 20.5°c - the recommended temperature for 100% efficient human brains :D Let's  hope it helps.

No need forth Wheezeworths but the equivalent of one NatGas-generator.

Great idea, I'll add something similar to my next design.

This is what I regularly do. If the electrolyzers are thermally sealed then the temp coming out of the 3x thermo regulators will peak at about 28-30c. Which I find to be sufficiently appropriate.
