Some more about chlorine

Ive seen uses for literally everything, but chlorine so far. Im presuming that devs intend to expand it usage in the future, but at the moment it is as it is. I havent tried Automation preview, so if its addressed, dont hit me 2 hard.

Basically right now, for me, chlorine is more of a nuisance than usable gas. Yes, it kills germs, but it also have tendency to get everywhere and it simply annoys me to no end, as i like everything perfect. Even CO2 now i just let sink to the bottom, where slicksters just convert it into crude oil(why there are so many of them anyway?).

Ore Scrubber uses chlorine, but i find it be fairly useless. Because of all the piping required to be laid to get chlorine into every corner of the base, to connect it to every scrubber...its irritating and considering all the effort, has fairly low return. Maybe im missing something.

So, at fist i thought to make it about Chlorine, but then again, it could be done with all gasses, if you think of it.

Basically new building called something along the lines of 'Gas Condenser', allowing to turn pumped in gasses into liquid form. Also acts as freezer for those liquids until they are removed. At the same time allowing Bottle Emptier to use all kind of liquids, not just water.

At the same time turn Ore Scrubber into something similar to Hand Sanitizer, where material is delivered, rather than pumped in. Also, Hand Sanitizer could use option in selecting medium used for sanitization. Similar to selecting material when building, expect in case of sanitizer preferred medium icon is just dragged upfrot, allowing usage of more that 2 in the future. This way dupes will try to load material that is first in the list. If none present, they go for second on the list, etc. So Sanitizers could use both Bleach Stone and Liquid Chlorine(altho it could have lesser effect on killing germs).

I have Sanitizers build everywhere, but Ore Scrubbers...meh, tried in few instance, but with amount of tunneling im doing, its simply unfeasible. Bleach Stone i mine at rate that i need it(i see no point in trying to make CO2 or vacuum chambers or use various exploits to make stuff like water gates) and it gradually depletes, but Chlorine that accompanies it just floats mostly around.

So, Gas Condenser can condense any gas into liquid form. It require gas intake pipe and stores liquefied gasses in internal freezeer, that they can be removed by dupes and taken to appropriate building. Like liquefy CO2 and then deliver it to bottom of the base and release thru Bottle Emptier, where it rapidly evaporates and is ready to be consumed by Slicksters. This is fairly primitive example, but its something. 

Power usage for that thing would wary depending on two conditions - what gas is being liquefied and what liquids are stored in internal freezer. For something like chlorine it could be fairly low, maybe 120W, but for something like Oxygen it would be around 560W(im just throwing ideas around, im sure that those numbers are nowhere near realistic, how much energy it would take to liquefy what, as freezing point is not only variable to consider). And in top of that energy usage by freezer. And it would also produce heat proportional to energy usage.

And im aware of various contraptions that allows players to heat up or cool down various mediums(to ridiculous degrees), but this idea simplifies this process and allows more options for already present materials to be used.

Only certain types of plastic require chlorine and I think adding different types of plastic would make that part of the game unnecessarily complex (and I think only having a single type of plastic that requires chlorine wouldn't make sense).

Agreed, I barely use chlorine. Once in a while I have a reason to flood an area with it to kill germs, but since the germs were reined in, I have only used it once. We need a reason to look for chlorine geysers. I like the option of disinfecting water with liquid chlorine:

Liquid chlorine to remove germs from water (does not change water type)

Sand to turn polluted water to clean water (does not change germ population) To address sand running out, we could use reed fiber + plastic for late game option.

Another idea us to use chlorine to charge dupes disinfection 'guns'. While they still can use their regular one with infinite 'ammo', when its loaded with chlorine it would disinfect structures twice as fast.

And yes, that water and chlorine mix would be great implementation.

One of my prior suggestions was using plastic + pumped Chlorine to make a new Filtration Medium item, but with the Rock Granulator it seems that our sand/filtration needs are functionally solved.

Perhaps using plastic + Chlorine to make an artificial Bleach Stone for renewable Hand Sanitizer use, or for other future devices that might use Bleach Stone such as a Pool Cleaner, or even as "ammo" for an upgraded Disinfectant Gun as mentioned above.

Pumping Chlorine to the Pharma Chamber would be an interesting challenge, too.

Large Water Distiller: Takes in liquid or gas chlorine and polluted water and produces clean water. Basically would act as an improved/faster water cleanser.

Auto-Disinfector: Looks like an emergency sprinkler but sprays a small concentrated burst of chlorine on anything that passes a certain direction, the automated version of the hand-sanitizer in a sense.

Just some random ideas

 

 

Introduce Salt (Metal Chloride) into gourmet cooking and make dupes suffer about eating too much grizzly food.

Bam, chlorine becomes super important.

  • Metal + Chlorine gas = Salt
  • Salt + Food = Higher Quality Food
  • Good Food =  Healthy Dupes, Bad Food =  Stat Penalties or DEATH!

So the auto-disinfector would be just like the ice flingomatic in don't starve? That's sounds cool and easy to implement. I hope they do it!
