So, I have almost 100 Hours under my belt, and I am LOVING the Oil Update.

So, I have a few ideas, though I'm not a game designer, myself, so I don't know how well they'd be balanced in the game.

Much like the Atmosphere suits making travel in dangerous biomes easier, maybe we could have a way to make duplicants Nocturnal, or at least able to work at night without going full red-alert on them.

Two way I could see this working are as follows: Equipping them with Night-Vision Goggles, then giving them a toggle to work during the night and sleep during the day. The second idea is to make it a flaw (or perk) that they only work at night and sleep during the day. That way, you have to delegate work for day and night.

This might be a good opportunity to make the night part of the cycle longer, and to make people pay more attention to where their dupes sleep. If there's loud labor going on, then the day dupes might not get a good night sleep, so the night dupes have to work away from them, and vice versa.

But again, I"m not a game designer, let me know what you guys think, maybe this could grow into a future update.

P.S. Air Conditioners, I'm running into heat problems and Wheezewort and pipe coolers aren't cutting it.

there used to be a trait .. night owl? or somesuch, which iirc allowed them to work at night. i'm not entirely sure why that one was removed

If I remember correctly it actually didn't allow them to work at night, it just made them more efficient at working during the night. That's probably why it was removed. Maybe it'll be brought back at some point, if the ability to make dupes work at night is added.

With the new barracks system and improved stamina regeneration from this and the new comfy beds: the idea of them only sleeping when they run out of stamina, and waking up when they regain it would make night time irrelevant. Duplicants would probably spend less time in comfy beds in barracks and more time working.

This might also break the massive lurching that occurs when the morning alarm goes off...although that might be the product of the game autosaving as well.

This would have some realism to it, as sick duplicants would sleep more than others - opening the possibility of coma, different poisoning effects, or death in their sleep if they weren't being treated properly ( given aid ).

I've always assumed it was just this that caused the brief hangup.

As to the topic at hand, I wouldn't mind a schedule system where we can set dupe activity time (when they sleep, when they shower, etc).  I don't see a huge purpose for working at night, but from an immersion stand-point I'd welcome the opportunity to have a dupe set to combat patrolling the base while everyone else is sleeping.  You know, just in case killer robots show up.

Hmmm.... That's a good idea! I mean, some dupes only work at night and some only work at day. Maybe that when dupes first start working at night they start to get stressed, this should be a buff for a few cycles until they get used to it. The problem is, hatches! Some dupes are scared of hatches while they are nocturnal so... That might be a problem with this idea.. (of course, this would only happen if they were loose hatches) But this was a good idea though!

I'd think it would make more sense for some duplicants to simply be "Night Owls". Having more energy at night, perhaps their sleep schedule is offset from the normal day/night cycle by about half the night cycle. I understand that the night portion is just a small piece of the pie in the overall cycle, which is why it wouldn't hurt that much.

Okay, in that case, staying up an extra 30 seconds isn't going to change anything. How about the Night Owl trait makes the individual stay up all night long; the entire 75 seconds. Then when morning comes, and everyone else is getting up, he's going to bed ... for a mere 75 seconds. He'll wake up, join the community for the rest of the work day, and do it all again when night falls.

It's not even that big of a difference, in the grand scheme, but I think it'll add diversity and and a bit of relatable-ness to the Dupes.
