How do you have 6+ players in DST since most recent update

Recommended Posts

Every new update will override any changes you've made in the game files. This means that your friend's tuning.lua file got overrode so the max player size reset to 6. You can simply go back into tuning.lua and change the number. You'll have to change the value every time a new update is released. I don't believe there is a workaround besides creating a mod.

How to Change Max Player Size
1. Go to your Steam Library and right click Don't Starve Together and click properties
2. Click the tab labeled Local Files
3.
 Click Browse Local Files
4. Open the Data folder
5. Open the Scripts folder
6. Go to Tuning (I recommend using the search bar)
7. Hit Ctrl+F and type in MAX_SERVER_SIZE and then hit Enter
8. Input new desired max server size (Don't forget to save the file!)

Note: A server's max player size is determined upon the server's creation. This means that if you set your max player size to 12, the server will still have 12 player slots even after a new update rolls out.

How would I change the max size of an already-created server?

Like your friend did. At least I am a senseless nooblet and edit the LUA, every time a big update hits, and everything works for me. Essentially, if you have more than six slots and tuning.lua is overwritten, the game thinks you got just a single slot opened. If you update the file, it will again recognise the settings. And you can change the number of slots from the menu every time you're in the game.

I know there's a Steam mod that ups the limit to a whopping 64, so there's an option too.

Though, your CPU has to be frickin strong to support all 64 players. A fridge for example would never be able to run smoothly with that many players.

You'd have to be throwing a kickass party to have to fill all 64 of the slots. It's more likely that you'd be filling, maybe, 2 extra slots over the maximum limit in the case of a private server.

This is true, although if you link your server to a group with decent reputation, write a welcoming description and leave it open, you can easily get about two dozen of people or so at once. All boils down to your specs and settings.

Editing game files is a bad idea. Instead, type this in the console:

TUNING.MAX_SERVER_SIZE = 64

or use this mod.

Increase the maximum server size with either the mod or the console command, then change the server size in the hosting menu.

Or you can put in the description "grief me" and look at the world later to see how destroyed it is

It has been months since we were last griefed and it was nothing we could not recover. It's been nearly a year now. We've gathered reputation and developed effective counters to griefing. I am not worried in the slightest.
