You should be able to name pets

Recommended Posts

Lil' update: Name tags for critters are 99% coded and functional, but some assets require additional attention and both of us are too busy for that.

Also I gotta look into naming beefalos (which is actually useful for remembering which one is which).

Oh right, the only cool thing in DS world is being Wolfgang and looking for items that make you stronker every day. You can also play the game on 16 colours so it works better and you don't have to deal with the fancy aesthetic changes from different seassons and times of the day. Or even better, just play it on black & white and delete all NPC (and playable characters) skins so the only thing you see is boxes of different sizes with their numeric info and no other unuseful data coming into your eyes.

Wha-What?

I used to play DS, but it's shallow in comparison to DST to be honest.

Ok, now for the serious reader: pets have had names forever in all kind of games and it was always a really cool feature for these players who want to use it. Why would you even bother about a feature you don't use? There is people who enjoy their cute noisy unuseful pets! hard to believe, huh? And no one of these players will force you to use them too. And yeah, many pets in the world have a name even when these are "just a pet". So it's a fair suggestion and a more than possible feature to be added :)

I can't argue with people who get emotionally attached to virtual pets, but I seriously wished that Klei at least added some sort of useful function to them than rather an cosmetic trait system, before being able to name pets at all.

How can you compare virtual pets to actual pets in real life? Isn't that a stretch of an comparison?

That's implying too much from what I said mate. I think maybe you read too fast and got yourself in a mistake. We are talking here about some funny feature, not much to argue about.

I said "there is people who enjoy dst pets". Getting emotionally attached feels like too much for something I "enjoy". I'm not very good at english but I think I didn't go that far in my post xD.

I guess the general consensus is that because of how cute they're people love them, but I can't really find an appeal to them.

Even if I tried, I once tamed a Vargling but it disapointed me how it was unable to hunt with me or how it stood there with it's fuzzy head and barked for me to feed it. If Klei added an useful trait system then it could appeal to everyone.

But it doesn't to me, even though I had tried.

For any of you wondering, i'm allergic to animal saliva or dander which I'm not very happy to have been born with. I mention this because this is also a factor in which why I'm not a big fan of Critters in the game, it gives me the connotation of me being unable to have a pet in real life.

I'll admit, i hate the DST pets. I mean, i should hate them, but i don't. Yes, they do get noisy if you don't give them food. And they just walk around and make noises. But i still like them! why? because they're cute. Very cute. Seeing my good ol' Vargy wagging his tail as i pet him is too adorable. It's a cosmetic thing. Let's be honest here: If you couldn't sell skins anymore, would you not use them at all? Of course you'd still use them because they look good. And pets are like live, walking skins - they're purely cosmetic and adorable. They don't need to have uses to be a good feature. They're just pets. And the reason most people get pets (other than guard dogs i guess) is to have a fuzzy friend in their life. Same thing in DST.

It's cosmetic, it's adorable and it, in my opinion, should not have a set purpose.
