Kaloex
So far, I've only played DST starting in Autumn and was able to survive till day 49. How should I go about starting in Winter/Summer/Spring without freezing/overheating/etc? Sivdun
Winter - Just make torch and burn trees (they burn long so you will warm yourself up) until you get more resources to make thermal stone or any winter hat. Spring - Collect flowers (6x) and craft straw hat and leave them in your inventory, when it starts to heavy rain craft pretty parasol (it refreshes itself even when your flowers are spoiled), put on the straw hat and you have your basic protection, when you are really wet you can stand under tree with this set and start campfire or set fire to other tree next to the one you are standing under and you will dry off. Summer - The best idea is to go down to the caves, you won't overheat there. Otherwise craft whirly fan and run around a tree and then put on the straw hat, keep doing this every 15 sec because you will overheat fast anyway (It's fun!). A couple extra noteworthy points: Winter - Setting two trees right next to each other on fire and standing as close as you safely can will increase your body temperature a bit more so that you can go a little longer before needing to warm back up again (this is before you get any gear like a thermal stone or two, burning trees give off a lot of heat to the point where you might even start overheating if you're next to 2-3 of them). Try to isolate trees that won't burn any of the nearby resources like grass and saplings that you want regrowing later so that you and others can continue to use them. Spring - Sometimes the caves doesn't sync up with the rain patterns above, so check every once in a while to see if you can dry off in one place or the other, especially if you're not comfortable with working on low sanity. Summer - If you can find / craft at least a basic science machine you can get access to endo fires, use that nitre that you find and keep yourself cool when you don't have a cave nearby or if you just don't want to go into one. Wetness also causes your temperature to drop and thus you take freezing damage, just a friendly reminder with lots of love. Not sure about this but I think it usually starts raining in the caves after the rain on the surface stops, I mean it makes sense since it takes time for the water to go through the ground. Arlesienne
My idea for summer apart from what has already been said: mosquito sacks filled in ponds give you one balloon even without prototyping (ice in sacks after prototyping gives several). At the cost of sanity, you may cool yourself. This may require another to throw at you though, not certain. From the outside looking in it leaves it open to interpretation how it seeps into the ground, but we know that these are two different shards entirely and have independent rain systems in the DST version since we can customize them. It's mostly just coincidence that they line up since it is raining more often than not in the spring season.
