BenTheGeek
Dear Klei, How is Don't Starve Together so much fun? I don't understand. Seriously. Why would you make a game this incredible and addicting? I swear to you, all I can do nowadays is think about getting back into my world and not starving. My best friend and I have been playing this game together for about a year now, but we took a big break and recently got back into it. We've been playing non-stop and I just... I can't comprehend why this game is so perfect. Two nights ago, I dreamt that I needed to collect resources in my day-to-day life in order to survive. I was mining for flint, crafting fires, and picking grass just to get through my work day. Please, I need help. You can help me by continuing to support this incredible game. I know that Don't Starve Together just recently came out of its beta, but we already need more. More mobs, more items, more characters. The Old Bell! I know that you're working hard and that you are continuing to support this game. I love you for it and always will. I'm just being greedy, but can you blame me? My best friend and I say "thank you" for making our absolute favorite game to play together. We are impatiently awaiting more content to help us not starve so that we can enjoy your game for hundreds of more hours. Thank you again and happy starving! -Ben Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/69142-why-is-dst-so-much-fun/ Share on other sites

EuedeAdodooedoe
What we need is an overhaul because this game only fits early and mid game playing perfectly. Late-game it's a completely different story and after like a thousand days you'll be thinking "I'm getting bored of this world, perhaps we should start a new world." Klei's never gonna do that. Although, if the old/existing content was made to be for more experienced players/just simply harder in general in certain ways, then perhaps even adding new content wouldn't be as necessary. It's a shame there's nobody out there who has the time to help me work on something like that... Many games are simply addicting. They just are (you probably have no life). If we had the ability to world-hop, we could get new worlds, whilst our old progress would not be erased. Perhaps the same when a world gets regenerated (unless you're dead upon the world regeneration)? You keep your crafted recipes and prebuilt stuff on you as well as the day count and the stuff on your inventory, whilst the world gets erased? That way people won't complain so much about Survival servers restarting so much and dying would be the ultimate way for you to actually regen yourself on a server/world. I wonder how world-hopping could be implemented into DST though, because having humongous amount of servers active would be pretty bad... On dedis at any rate. See how @Joachim puts it together here. Imagine the possibilities when if it could be done on hosted servers too. Or just use a mod to expand your number of clusters. Or save clusters. But the idea of world-hopping is more fun. How is that bad? I am currently hosting 5 connected worlds on 5 different machines. I have a single script to start/update/stop all servers at once. It does not seem to be so bad. And the more servers are created for the sake of a multitude of players, well, it'll get messy. Griefing with this would become extremely bad Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/69142-why-is-dst-so-much-fun/#findComment-797126 Share on other sites

But the idea of world-hopping is more fun. Well, I think it would be fun to world-hop from server to server too via the teleportato, but... if you could bring stuff over from a server that one person has hosted to another... Imagine if somebody could bring a bunch of thulecite and krampus sacks from one server because the mods from one server allow for crafting of thulecite and krampus sacks with 2 twigs or something and right off the bat too. Then it'd be basically cheating, in a sense. If you could only server-hop if both server have the same mods installed then there would still be the problems of people joining with hammers and hammering everything, then going to the next world and doing the same. Perhaps worlds could have the option of enabling/disabling Teleportato, but then it would mean that having a Teleportato enabled would be a bad idea mainly due to griefers Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/69142-why-is-dst-so-much-fun/#findComment-797129 Share on other sites
Arlesienne
Well, I didn't think about griefing, just... the whole problem for the host. Imagine each player could create a theoretically-infinite number of servers just by teleporting. Where would they be hosted? On the host's hosting station, of course. After all it's the host's computer and bandwidth to hold all this together. A conscientious admin is really essential for the game since we don't play alone. I understand that, but why can't there just be an "Old Bell On/Off" option in the world set-up? I understand that it may seem silly to include that for only one item, but not having it makes the game feel a little incomplete. I know that my friend and I keep coming up with a thousand uses for it that we'd like to have in our game, so having the option to be able to include it would only make our game more fun. I feel like it should be very easy to make it possible to turn it on or off for your world. Just a thought! And a hope. And a dream... CaptainChaotica
I've thought of having a teleportato option in DST before...but the only way I could see it working would be if ALL players were ready and agreed to go through at once. You couldn't have any stragglers left behind, because that world would get shut down and they'd be disconnected. The new world through the teleportato would work just like in singleplayer--replacing the old one. Mods would not be a problem because the game would just generate a new world on the server of whoever was already hosting, and use whatever settings and mods they already had in place. You would not be able to jump from one PLAYER'S server to another, it'd just restart the world. In other words, it would be a "Reset server" thing except it would happen when everybody ISN'T dead. And you'd get to take your inventory over with you. Obviously this still has major problems, the main one being--what if everybody doesn't agree? What if some are REALLY far away from the portal and the other players get impatient? What if someone who regulary plays that server isn't there that day, and finds their character at a portal on a completely unexplored, empty map with no explanation? So yeah, teleportato would be difficult in multiplayer no matter how you slice it. I still miss finding the different pieces around, though. (The pieces themselves would drop out of your inventory whenever you left, so griefers wouldn't be able to hold one hostage and keep everyone else from using the portal.) ...Notorous Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/69142-why-is-dst-so-much-fun/#findComment-797309 Share on other sites
Arlesienne
Notorious, how about all players teleporting when the admin waves their Stick of Doom? Ben, I totally agree. For now, we use the bearger to farm logs and rocks. And the deerclops for meat.
