dronuspk
I've been playing Don't Starve since it came out, and mainly do RoG worlds when I play now. I consider myself a very experienced player but I've always had generally the same guideline on my worlds, which are as follows: I do Huge size (of course), Random seasons, Always & Most on Branching/Looping, Long night, None touchstones and More on all Giants (Lots seem to spawn random giants in random seasons which kills the lore of it a bit). Lastly I will round it out with a More/Less trade off with whatever Character I'm picking pro's and con's (IE: More Spiders, Less Boulders for Webber). A friend of mine at work got into the game a month or so back and I had a chat with her about what she chose and her choices were vastly different with every world. I was curious about two things: What are other experienced Don't Starve players "common" world customizations like (things you always do the same unless doing a challenge world) or are you like my friend and change it up with every game? and Are there any definitive guidelines to how each world customization work? I've played for so long yet am still perplexed by how extreme More and Lots both are with generally all Resources and Mobs. I'd think More would be a bit more in the middle of default and lots, but it seems to be quite close to Lots in terms of quantity from my experience. Several sites cite a variety of answers for this, and figured this would be the best place to find a more solid answer to it. imsomony
The issue of "More" being totally out-of-whack has been an issue for a long, long time, unfortunately. You'd think it would just slightly increase, but instead, it's like it triples or quadruples. "Lots" is unplayable, every screen is overrun. I never customize resources/mobs as a result. The main things I'll do is mess around with land branches/loops, and world size. I like seeing what sorts of odd layouts I can get and whether I can get that 100% perfect setup for base-building. A user on this site created some worlds and provided map screenshots so we can get an idea of what we're working with when we change branches/loops. One time I set every resource/mob to Lots and my world to Huge, just to see how long I could survive and if I could find a small little area of seclusion to clear out and live. I was able to, but was promptly killed when Winter began because there were a gajillion MacTusks and I couldn't escape them long enough to hunt/etc. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/68857-world-customizations/#findComment-792619 Share on other sites
Asparagus
Yep... so for me, I balance things... if I set some things to more or lots, I set something else to less... Basically Default everything except: Frog Rain to less Boons to more Flowers to more (so you can get random evil flowers which could be quite useful for starting an evil flower farm without having to haunt them) More Mushrooms Less Rabbits Less Beefalo More ponds More Wasp Hives More Treeguards More Krampus (which doesn't seem to do much) Sometimes, just for fun, less grass, less saplings... Masterofstarve
Yes i realised the "More" option is quite broken too. I rarely find any tallbirds so i decided i will put them on more on my next world, there were tallbirds everywhere. It came to a point where i couldn't gather grass/twigs or mine without a tallbird constantly trying to rip me in pieces. As for the world customization settings i do everything default except World Size: Huge (Keeps its exciting) Season Start: Autumn (I don't know how to properly prepare for summer in 20 days, and, annoying rain in spring) Day: Long Day (So i can actually do stuff and explore instead of sitting next to a campfire most of the time) Boons: More (I like just finding random stuff scatered around) Rocks: More (I love rocks) Pigs: More (Makes me feel less lonely. lol) Bees: More (I love bees) Spiders: More (Magnificent creatures) And all the giants (Bearger, Dragonfly, Goose/Goose, Deerclops) on Lots (I like giants) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/68857-world-customizations/#findComment-792667 Share on other sites
spiderdian
I've only dedicated my time into a single world, since I also share my play time with other games So these are he settings I have on it(though I created it when I was a newbie) Season Start:Autumn(I'm never prepared to deal with summer if I set to spring) Season Length: Long Autumn, Short Winter and Summer, Default Spring Krampus: Less(which I ended up regretting post day 250) Land Loop: Less Branching:Less Rain:Less Frog Rain:None Giants:Less(another setting I regret) One thing that they should have given info of is that when you set something to less, it will ALWAYS be at the minimal intensity, which means that if you set...for example, Krampus to less, you'll forever be stuck with a 0-2 chance with each spawn. I never mess with day length, since it's one of the settings you'd be regretful to mess with in late game(even early game if you're a rusher) A trivial fact: Did you guys know that after 'Lots' there should be 'Crazy'? When hound attacks are set to default it will eventually reach Crazy intensity. I wonder why they made it not available to custom settings Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/68857-world-customizations/#findComment-792689 Share on other sites
StaypuftMMM
I will sometimes mess with land branching and looping but my results often vary as to whether it is good or not. I thought someone once said that if you make your world huge, all it really does it make the resources more spread out. If with the increase in size it properly scales up the amount of resources, boons, etc then I would like to play with it on. Tried it a few times years ago but don't recall the differences. The only thing I consistently change is smoldering to less. I'm not concerned with my base burning down but I am worried about entire forests disappearing if they accidentally catch fire. Don't enjoy hanging out in the desert only either. Anyway, maybe it's the environmentalist in me, but I think the map starts looking really ugly if the original design ideas gets drastically changed. While I do make changes to the environment, I try and factor in aesthetic appeal as well as "does this look natural to the environment." For example, I don't like putting up a pine tree farm in the middle of savannah. Of course, I have done it several times (but I don't like looking at it). graycrayon
I usually keep the settings on default. When I feel like switching it up, Land Branch: Most, and Land Loop: Never. Word to the wise, Land Loop Always/Land Branch Never is never a perfect loop. The game becomes walking simulator at that point.
