Pangaea
I recently got into Don't Starve about a year ago. However, I never actually played the original one (solo player), I got into DST. I always assumed they were the same thing and figured that I could do single player on DST if I wanted to (just make a server with a password that nobody knows), so I saw no point in getting Don't Starve (mainly because I didn't feel like unlocking characters, I already know how the story goes via YouTube videos, and now DST has caves). However, I read somewhere that certain mobs in DST are buffed, mainly because the game assumes you are playing with more people. I was wondering if this is true? Is this what has been leading to my downfall when I play solo in this game? Sorry if this is a dumb question or in the wrong section, I'm just curious. Developer ImDaMisterL Posted April 16, 2016 Developer Share Posted April 16, 2016 You'd be right, DST mobs were buffed to "fit multiplayer", in a way, and then there's also the Ewecus, that's like a Warg but made to be fought with 2 or more players. Most bosses have their health doubled in DST, and the Dragonfly... well, it has much more health... oCrapaCreeper
DST is different than the singleplayer game in a number of ways to fit the environment of more than one players. For example, many characters were nerfed, armor works different, no adventure mode, different items, different mobs, etc. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/66388-dst-vs-ds/#findComment-750987 Share on other sites
Rily
They are quite different now, in my opinion DST feels more complete, a few little tweaks like the bearger hibernation, beefalo riding, and slow combustion on forest fires makes the difference, the single player is good, specially with the adventure mode, but when you are surviving for so long it gets pretty easy and repetitive, however in together the extra difficult with buffed mobs, the new dragonfly and being unable to skip days help to keep the game hard and fresh even if you know everything of it. The best thing about the single player could be the characters, you should check them, some of they were OP, and very different from the DST version of each one, specially Woodie and Willow. The original Don't starve is a good start point but I see together as the ultimate Don't starve experience, even better than shipwrecked, specially because both games gets repetitive eventually but in together every world feels more different because the contribution of your friends, and Im not counting the upcoming DLC that has the potential to make every match even more unique Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/66388-dst-vs-ds/#findComment-751020 Share on other sites

From the wiki: Armor has less durability (by 30%) and can no longer be multiplicatively stacked as it could before; the game now uses the better armor's absorption, then divides the damage absorbed between the two worn armors weighted by their absorption (Although testing points more to a 50/50 distribution). emerphish
I tried DST for like 20 mins and didn't like it. I feel like Don't Starve should be enjoyed as a single player experience, and multiplayerization was a tragic eventuality.
