DeputyDeath
I have reserved a part of my base island (which is, and always bad been, completely barren) to be battered with volcano bombs during eruptions. That way, I never really have to leave base during dry season. When it comes to the eruptions, I literally stand completely still for the most part. If I see a shadow form very near or under my character, I'll move slightly, but then I'll move no further after reaching my new position. I try to stay as still as possible during eruptions because it helps me to stay focused and reduces the risk or running into a falling egg. On the whole, this tactic works very well. I can survive the last eruption by only moving a few times, and in the preceding ones I often don't move at all. It appears that volcano bombs rarely fall onto your position, but instead will only realistically hit you if you run into them. This implies that the eruptions are a test to see how well you can keep your cool in a stressful situation with a lot at stake, rather than running around like a headless chicken. Outside or eruptions, I go back to base and cool myself down near my endothermic fire whilst also grabbing some more food stores for the next eruption. But what about you? I know a lot of people struggle with dry season, so I think that making a thread about it would be beneficial to many players. brethren
I just had my first experience with dry season, only made it to day 62. On thing that I thought was ridiculous was seeing everything dry up and become useless on day 1 of the season, even before all the puddles from monsoon season had dried up! Seems crazy to me that with all the wetness from the previous 2 seasons that everything suddenly can't grow. I've read things that say you should use monsoon season to prepare for dry season, but I was struggling just to stay alive and not go insane from wetness and everything else. What does everyone eat to endure dry season, seaweed? If you have an ice fling-o-matic covering them and turn it on a few days before dry season starts, it'll save them from withering. I guess that other people eat whatever they can find, but seaweed I'd the only viable food source left for a nomad in dry season that comes to mind. Russian
> How do you survive dry season? Just make enough of beacon-and-eggs and go sailing around. As intended. Screw that volcano, its boring. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/64955-how-do-you-survive-dry-season/#findComment-728379 Share on other sites

What does everyone eat to endure dry season, seaweed? Yeah that seems a little bit buggy, I lost 9 Dragonfruits, 40 gras, 30 twigs, 30 bamboo because of that speed withering. It wasn't like that before the last 1-2 updates if I remebmer correctly. And my farms and saplings still wither in that season, even with constant flingomatic bombardment. AnonymousKoala
My current Dry Season is me building a casino in my slot machine island which is relatively close to the volcano, and i have a stock of trinkets and even a one true earing, as well as a shark gill. Basically, when I hear an eruption, I go and sacrifice. I like to take this season to explore the sea usually though. stl1234
Overheating: 2 Thermal stones + icebox + Umbrella. Keep thermal stones in the icebox, pick one up when leaving the base, swap with the cold one when the previous one is warm. Keep umbrella up to stay cool longer when thermal stone is inaccessible (during eruptions). Eruptions: Prepare some barren land on the island or a neighboring island. Magma field biome works well, and I use pitchfork to mark a safe region and to make the shadows easier to see (see image). At the third warning, I pick my cold thermal stone, equip armor, and get to this area. Then dodge. After the eruption, I go back, swap my thermal stone again. If the land is on my island, I immediately go back to kill dragoons. If not, I wait for the next eruption. Next time, I wait for the eruption while collecting items from the previous one and killing dragoons. Food: Not typically a problem, as I stock up when I can. Some tips: Monster meat + icemaker = meatballs. Fish morsel + drying rack = small jerky. Small Jerky + Monster meat + Bird cage = Bacon and Eggs. Bee Box + Monster meat = Honey nuggets. BeeBox + monster meat + small jerky = Honey ham. Wobster + Monster meat = Surf 'n' Turf. Prime Apes = All the food you need, as long as you can get bananas. Large jungle trees = bananas + eggs. Seaweed + Monster meat = meatballs. Seaweed + fish morsels = California Roll. I find the Wobster recipe most useful if for some reason other food is hard to get. Also palm trees = 1-2 coconuts = 2-4 halved coconuts + monster meat = meatballs, but this may be a bit risky with tree guards spawning. On the plus side, tree guards also drop monster meat. I posted this on a different thread as well, here is how my current base looks like. The beach land (was magma previously) on the right corner is where I go during eruptions. As long as I'm not stepping on the magma turf, I know I have a large margin between where the eggs can land and where the flammables are. Rellimarual
Make grass & tree farms, harvest at night whenever they grow back to stock up on grass and twigs during hurricane and monsoon season. You should be fine then, although a full stack of bamboo is good too. I make rope as often as I can when the grass is growing. Then all you need is spiders and tidal pools. Spiders give monster meat, pools give fish (9 fish for two silks and a twig!) and you have surf and turf all summer long. With a bird cage you can make bacon & eggs which has more hunger but less of a sanity and health boost. If your base is near fishermerms, they'll give you 2 to six fish per day for nothing. Donax
Usually I set an empty space for eruptions and I craft 2 feather fans per year for the heat. The rest of the time I spent it gathering mushrooms/meat and setting up my base. In the last world i have however, I am chilin' in my RoG word since it's winter there. And with obsidian tools, winter in RoG assures me that i won't know anymore what freezing means. I wished there were ice tools to chill me down in summer as well ^^ Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/64955-how-do-you-survive-dry-season/#findComment-729114 Share on other sites
Luponius
Honestly, as a nomad I'm still working on this I know tree cover can help but that wrecks islands. Crafting an endothermic fire pit somewhere I plan to spend that season around and continuously revisiting it turns out to be a huge wrench in my exploration but it does seem to work, although cooling doesn't last anywhere near as long as I'd like it to, but if timed a little bit before the eruptions hit you can make it work. Dry / Summer seasons are always a big problem for nomads since logs during cold seasons are plentiful, but nitre for warm seasons, unfortunately are not... and it's not feasible to put down a cold fire pit everywhere I go, I just can't afford that much gold as a meager nomad... I guess they wanted base builders to get off their comfort zone and move about a bit, while simultaneously expect nomads to settle down and wait it out. I can't complain, I just wish it wasn't as redundant and in-your-way as it is right now. Also, not moving got me killed once, the moment I saw the shadow and started to move, before I was out of the shadow I got hit (could be that bulletspeed glitch people were talking about) but I was both sober and fully awake - reacted as soon as my brain registered a growing shadow but still got smushed right before I was clear of the impact... So it's probably best to continuously move, and if you can afford it with a thermal stone, go out on the seas and enjoy wave dodging on a dedicated boat you keep for that stuff. InSanity71
If you have a swamp nearby 1 good thing is a floral shirt, or a cheap option (if you can handle sanity) is the fashion melon. If you find yourself overheating you can either stand under trees or run your boat into waves to get wet. For food you can get seaweed, make trawling nets, fishing rods, and the shipwrecks found around the map still have limpets on them. If you are playing as Wilson and have full health and a 100% log suit you can actually survive getting hit once, so it is worth it to wear armor if possible. Other than that Good Luck.
