johnsnake71
Just thought I stopped by and share my 2 cents. I've also been part of this community for a long time and used to be very active, participating in fan art threads and sharing my ideas for the game, then suddenly I just sort of... stopped. I guess I really did get bored, had to happen eventually since I spent like 600 hours into the game, learning the exact AI of every enemy and the almost never getting hit since I was the Kite master. But the only last real time I was still here was when Caves were being added and I was here for a little bit on Reign of Giants. I'm back here now to catch up on what I missed with Don't Starve together and Shipwrecked (remember when Klei said no multiplayer? Good old days lol), Anyways this might have been the wrong thread to had even posted this in but I figured I just dropped it in on my history and how I enjoyed this game through Klei's decisions. EDIT: Also just curios but what happened to those DS beta badges? Battal I think you had one too, but it seems to be gone now. Misaki
Why do you care about skins? It's not the Guest Of Honor diamond backpack Wigfrid that's gonna screw you over. It's gonna be default Wes with grass armor that will kick your ass. Devon Aster
I wasn't a fan of the initial decision to make Shipwrecked a standalone, but I'm quite ok with the way it has been linked in. Even if it was a stumble, Klei did seem willing to do what they could to correct it without having to scrap everything and start over. It allows Shipwrecked to keep its own design while allowing players to cross back and forth as with Caves. (If I remember correctly, and I might not be, Klei originally wanted to make the original DS world a hub from which players could travel to other 'worlds', with Caves being the first. But the idea got scrapped due to time or technicalities?) On the other hand, I'm very surprised at how skins in DST has apparently been handled. I thought the point of them was to differentiate between players using the same character. Making them into drops that one has to wait for or purchase, rather than just something that can be picked from the get-go, is begging for trouble. No matter how cosmetic an item is, it is almost inevitable that it will fuel division between players. Those who have begin to look down their noses on those who have not. Worse is dressing it up as any sort of reward, especially for 'loyalty'. Some people simply do not have the time or money to invest in getting such an item. Yet, they often get scoffed at for not being 'dedicated' enough, they are not 'true fans'. There will also be those who don't really care about the game, but will care very much that getting and selling skins can net them some cash. If one has time and a good enough computer, then idling in godmode probably won't seem too much of a hardship. Those are not problems unique to DST by any means. They're something I've seen on other MMOs and a couple of the many reasons why I don't bother with them anymore. Elitism can ruin a game quickly, regardless of now innocuous the intent of the developers. Though I do doubt that skin farmers will be that much of an issue, since dedicated farmers in general tend to focus on games that will get them the best profits for the least time/effort. It is anything around the area of $18 for a dragonfly backpack. That's a touch silly in my mind. Just throwing my 2 cents in, I really don't care too much about the skins, I like to change my character a bit so I'm not plain ol` wilson, wx, or whatever I'm playing as. Especially if it's a larger server. I was playing on a server that had 8 players, and 4 of them were wigfrids, and my friend who I had joined was wigfrid. Most of them were default skins, and I really could not tell them apart. In moments like these, the skin pieces would have been useful. Also, most of the "wackier" items are higher rarity, which is part of the reason they are more wanted, and possibly why they were given a higher rarity in the first place. VexTheHex
I'm not understanding these posts bringing up a division in players. I never seen anyone comment or whine that someone had a Tweed Waistcoat or GoH Wigfrid yet. I think this "separation" of players is something more in people's heads than an actual thing. Shipwrecked is better off alone. It's characters even reflect that. Skins add a new and fun element to the game. They also provide the much needed way to separate repeat characters from each other. So then 1 item is at a ridiculous price. <.< I agree that is silly, though, but it is the rarest of the newest items, so I suppose I can somewhat understand why it's currently so high. Did you know that before the Marketplace, some skins were going for $60 or more? That's why I'd rather have the Marketplace than not, personally. Now, everything other than the Scorching Satchel is at a pretty reasonable price for what they are. DwerBomb
I like shipwrecked as standalone way more than I would have liked it if it was merged with rog. Separating the two things gives more playability, more options (will I go through the novelty ride and live in RoG with my pirate hat? Or will I come back with a houndius shootius and plant it in my SW base?). It also makes the game less overwhelming and crowded to keep apart sea stuff and original stuff: I don't want too much stuff going on, and way less I want it if it means getting rid of variety. Having the two worlds divided is the best option, making both worlds expandable and original.
