PlayingDead
[bUG] Walani cannot place her surfboard into the water from shore. I tried several times from different locations and she just runs up to the water, hits an invisible wall and keeps running in place like she can't get to where she need to go. I've been able to use her surfboard only by building a raft and launching from the water. If there is a restriction on where she can or cannot launch, it needs to be explicit. [bUG] During strong winds, harvested trees/grass/twigs plants will retain their "not harvested" graphic (without animation) after they have been harvested, while still behaving like they where cut/harvested. [bUG] Wild-boar-pig-men-dudes that have been befriended with meat will sometimes run off in random direction until they reach the chore and then run in place. I believe they get unstuck at nighttime. This seems to happen when they are instructed to fight. [bUG] The game crashed suddenly on me on two occasions... I don't know what triggered it. [COMMENTS]I came at this DLC with confidence, being an experienced player of the vanilla Don't Starve. The first time I played, I got bitten by a venomous snake, ran around poisoned for two minutes not knowing what to do, then died. The second time I played, I got bitten by a venomous spider (not this again), ran around looking for coral for two minutes, then died. The third time I played, my first priority was to find coral... Then I got bitten by a venomous spider again, ran around for two minutes looking for some venom, then died.I stopped playing for a while...The fourth time that I played, I had a chest full of venom and coral... It started to rain, my character went crazy from wetness and died! Observation #1: this DLC is hard. Not complaining. You obviously made this for hardcore players. However, I would argue that the venom mechanic is slightly too punishing at first. Failing and starting over is not an issue, it's part of the fun. But failing repeatedly from the same cause, even when you know the solution... Venom (rare) and coral (uncommon) are both hard to find for the newcomer who still needs to familiarise himself with the sailing mechanic and discovers where those ingredients are found. But if you bump into the wrong snake, getting poisoned can occur within the first 30sec of gameplay. Once you figure it out, it's not that bad, but the game puts a lot of pressure on you to get those ingredients as soon as possible. Especially before those damn mosquitoes come out. Observation #2: coconuts are as precious as gold.I figured out too late that coconuts are important for late game weapons. It's strange that the palm tree graphic shows 3 nuts in the palm tree, but only one falls to the ground when you cut it (sometimes two, but rarely). The problem with this is that if you use the coconut, and they are VERY useful, then you quickly run out of palm trees. I understand that the designers don't want coconuts to become an easy food source for farming, but there are more elegant solutions. What if it was possible to harvest the coconut from the tree without chopping it down? Maybe with a little "shake the tree" animation. What if that coconut always fell on our characters head and inflicted 10-15 damage? And then the tree could regrow the coconut in 2-3 days. The health penalty would make them impractical for farming, but at least we wouldn't run out of coconuts. Observation #3: Monkeys won't fight spidersI threw a monkey ball next to a spider nest expecting pandemonium... I was quite disappointed. It appears that spiders and monkeys do not interact at all. Is this by design and why not? Observation #4: the water makes no senseI could manage the rain, but the sudden flooding completely screwed my game. It's an interesting alternative to winter, having to manage water instead of cold. I understand that I'm supposed to use sand-bags to manage it... However... I had to go and read the wiki to figure out how they work. Using them to "kill" puddles is un-intuitive. A rotational person would assume that sandbags are for stopping rising waters. However, if puddles are forming inland from torrential rain overhead, they would be useless. I understand this is just a game and doesn't have to follow real world logic to the letter, but still... Puddles where draining my sanity so bad at some point that I started treating them like deadly lava. Please create rubber boots! Observation #5: how do I make a Prestihatitator without rabbitsI found lots of loot that hints that magical crafting is still possible with the DLC, like nightmare fuel, gems and living logs... But without rabbits (I still haven't found any), how will I craft the Prestihatitator? Maybe there are rabbits in the world and they are just very rare now...? Goxu
It's called the parithatinator now and requires a parrot instead of a rabbit. Urfable
Not sure how helpful this will be but: 1) Avoiding poison early on isn't very hard. (But of course if you're completely new to the DLC it takes time to get used to). I tend to avoid cutting too many jungle trees early on to avoid poisonous snakes from spawning but even then, they are easy to kite. Spider warriors should not be a problem at all if you know how to fight the spiders properly. Stink rays can pose as a bigger problem but you can just avoid their aggro range/ just run the hell away. Seashell suits are life savers and i prioritize them early. I always get important ingredients/ materials when i come across them because of situations like these. 2) I haven't had too many difficulties keeping up a tree farm/ having more than enough coconuts for what i need to make. A lot of the things you need coconuts for is fairly late game which means you should have a base set up with a tree farm going. What i usually do is chop down all the trees that look fully grown, then i just replace as many as i need and keep the ones that i have left over.Lets just say, you chop down all the palm trees you have on your island when they're fully grown, and you restrain yourself from using them immediately and instead planted all of them. If you wait for them to grow fully there's a pretty high chance that you will have more than enough to replant the ones you chopped + have some extras. If you don't need them immediately you can even expand your tree farm, making the possibility higher.I'm fairly certain there is two different maturity stages for the trees, one giving you 2 coconuts and the other giving you 1 coconut but it's really hard to tell. 3) I actually have no idea since i never tested it/ seen it. 4) Monsoon season is considered spring actually (bees will aggro onto you, etc.). So instead of constant rain you just have a ton of water everywhere. Anything/ any combination of items that give you 100% water resistance will make it so you don't get wet while standing in puddles (umbrella + straw hat for example). 5) As Goxu said, you just need parrots instead of rabbits. AnonymousKoala
Poison is unforgiving, but most mechanics in DS aren't. And like most mechanics, when you're prepared, its easy(ish).Gas Mask and Seashell Armor, kill a poisonous mob, make an antivenom beforehand in the offchance you'll be poisoned when your armor and mask aren't on. I actually grown to like this mechanic. Fits well. Shaking the Tree is such a fantastic idea. I wish it'll be added. ...Am I not a real world person. Because I actually see the logic in sandbags on puddles haha. Then again, in a country like mine, I never came close to sandbags, so... This DLC is after ROG DLC so it is not that hard if you are familiar with ROG Anyway great that you write this down! Seems like you are not good friend with spiders FYI you can kill them without spawning those yellow poisonous spiders. Also everything that can poison you will also drop poison glands so poison will become way too easy if you find out this. If you enjoying DS and SW you should definitely try ROG! You wont come back to vanilla for sure ... also DST is already integrated with ROG .) Mday
Your observation #2 is very interesting. By late game weapons do you mean coconade? So far I have not find a good use for the coconuts/coconade. I only farm palm tree to get living logs and make dark sword or of it.What do you use the coconade for?
