So I've recently entered to wonderful world of DS and DST on the pc, and I'm really enjoying the mods. One mod in particular that I really like is Walter the Botanist (In DST). He fits into the game really well, and actually looks like a character that Klei would have made (plus I've always wanted an old man gardener character). He even has his own voice, which is fantastic. The only issue I have with playing him (and I'll admit this is kind of nitpicking) is that while he has his own voice, almost all of his comments are Wilson's.

This definitely isn't game-breaking, but it does take the immersion in his character a bit out for me. I've always liked the comments that the characters make, but it drives me nuts when an almost perfect character like this talks exactly like Wilson. So my question is, is it possible to mod Walter and change his comments on things? That's all I'd be doing. I have no experience with modding at all, but if this is possible then by all means, please let me know.

Well it's a DST mod, so if you change it, same changes will have to be done for everyone else on your server.

Btw the speech file of a character can be found here:

Steam/SteamApps/common/Don't Starve Togather Beta/(your mod file)/scripts

The name will probably be speech_walter for your mod. Open it and change texts within the " " at your liking. Be careful tho, if you change anything outside of the " " your mod may crash, so just in case, back up the speech file before changing anything.

Okay, thanks. Hopefully I can figure this out :p    although what do you mean by having to change it for everyone on my server?

Writing lines is a lot of work. I wouldn't be surprised if the author welcomed the chance for someone to write lines for their character. Have you tried contacting them? They would probably add it to the official mod.

I second what the Professor said.

I just want to point out that you can make a seperate "patch" kind of mod. In modinfo.lua, you'd have to set a high loading priority, so it can change code first and its files get preferred. Then you simply place the speech script in the patch mod and make whatever changes you like.

There's a small chance I made a mistake in this instruction, it's been a long time since I last modded DS or DST.

Also, Mazel Tov! You're taking things into your own hands!

Well thanks again to both of you   I agree, contacting the maker of the mod will probably help a lot. Hopefully I can figure all of this modding stuff out. Better diologue, here I come!
