Thieverpedia
Has anyone actually used the Spyglass after one or two uses? Honestly, I could see even more than the spyglass by taking the extra 15 seconds to explore an area instead of waste a pigskin on it. Is it just me who doesn't see the usefulness in it? jrista
I've found them to be somewhat useful. They can at least help you pick a direction to sail off in, because you can identify whether there are any islands in that direction. Also, remember, you need to rotate the map to view in different directions, since it always seems to look upwards on the map. Mday
I don't think it works on boat:C No spyglass isn't that useful in most of my playthrough. After playing a few times I kinda get the idea on how the spread of islands works in current world gen. Also I don't think it marks the location of fishbone. So If I happen to be carrying one I will use it to explore the open sea just and get rid of it asap. I will save that 1 gold for tools and pig skin for a bat/ helmet. Guest
its weird, on a boat you can hold it in the air and look in the direction you right click but not if you have it equipped... It's kind of meh, by the time you have a few you don't really need them. Would be nice to have it at your starting shipwreck or something, maybe have that pop out if you hammer it rather than a boat repair kit. TrysHard
You can use it on boat??? because with controller, you can't!I have found there are lots of problems using the controller. I find its easier with Mouse/Keyboard. I can't seem to get the crockpot to work with the controller. The spyglass does work on a boat when you only have one. Doesn't work when you have two in inventory. I also use it to check out islands. Is your game up to date? Most of the controller issues got fixed in the Hang Ten update although I couldn't see it in the update notes. You can now cook with the crock pot, open inventories whilst on a boat, fire the boat cannon without it crashing your game, pick up bioluminescence without it crashing your game and use the spyglass with the controller. This is with an xbox 360 controller mind you, might not be fixed for all controllers. You still cannot use the spyglass on a boat! and even before update you could when on foot! But yeah, all the rest is fixed. My bad, just tested it and you're right, you can't. EDIT: Scratch that, you can. Just not with a boat lantern/boat torch equipped to the boat at the same time. Not sure if this is a feature or a bug but maybe the boat lantern blocks your view. Probably not intended though. Rlyehian
Remember to use the spyglass during the day. The range that is revealed is heavily dependent on the time of day you use the item. Using the spyglass during the day will result in full vision, while at dusk the range is about half? and at night the range is maybe a quarter?. ThaumicParrot
I found it fun to just look in a hexagon of direction all in one sitting. Also it does work on boats, as long as you don't have a lantern equipped. That fixed it for me at least.
