Having found in a box a Obsidian Armor and Obsidian Spear, I can confirm their actions.

 

Obsidian Armor = when wearing it, if an enemy hits you directly OR via projectile, the enemy is immediately set on fire. :grin:

 

(I had it on when 3 treeguards spawned. Each time they hit me with a coconut, they lit on fire at a distance! AWESOME. After a few rounds of this, they died and I reaped their drops without effort on my part!)

 

Obsidian Spear = When you strike an enemy, they are lit on fire.

 

Any other Obsidian finds out there?

Chopping a tree with an obsidian axe sets it on fire :/

There's Obsidian versions of each tool, then a spear, speargun, and Coconade. There might be a helmet but I didn't see one

I've seen a few things. I'm not sure about things that only show up as loot in treasure chests or trawler fishing etc. but I've found the

 

Obsidian Axe, sets things on fire, good for making charcoal.

 

Obsidian Machete. Same thing minus the charcoal.

 

Obsidian Coconade. Explodes and sets things on fire.

 

Obsidian Speargun. Basically like the fire darts.

 

Obsidian Armor. Sets attackers on fire and makes you immune to fire damage, gives you a chance to collect those resources your axe or machete just set on fire.

 

Obsidian Spear. Melee fire, what could go wrong?

Personally I found the armor VERY useful in my described situation.

I found the Obsidian Armor + Spear to be invaluble for clearing an island full of Prime Apes.

 

...and a lot of the trees too. WARNING - ENEMIES ON FIRE PANIC AND RUN AROUND IN CIRCLES!

 

I forgot that part. But hey, no more Prime Apes! Plus many of them set their own bases ablaze, saving me a job.

how come it is so? monkeys dont attack you. They dont deal damage in melee combat. you can basicall do same thing with setting dens on fire.

I wanted to go on a killing spree. They'd been following me for so long and one of them stole some gold from me. I snapped. Most of them couldn't throw poop at me either because they were on fire, which was helpful.

Obsidian staff: rain death and destruction upon your targets.  Fiery, rocky death and destruction.  Oh, and have fun dealing with the consequences of summoning volcanoes.  At least, that's what I've come to believe it does, since the shaking and dialogue are the same as the warning ones you get during summer.  Except this comes not in summer, but at the time you use the staff.  The one playthrough I used the staff, was the only one I had death from the skies during a different season.

From what some others have posted I think just picking up the staff starts an erruption out of season. Or possibly starts a series of them. Not sure yet as I haven't found it myself so far, and I'm unlikely to touch it when I do.

So anyone know how to get regular obsidian?? I have 6 (found it in the volvano staff set peice) and i need 3 more to make the fire packim baggins. So yeah.
