How to use multiple slave (cave) servers?

Recommended Posts

This is not a question of how to set them up and get them working. I already have them working. This is a question of how to get the master server to actually do something with them.

I currently have three slave (cave) servers, and one master server. I know from the console output that the master is talking to all three slaves, and all three slaves talk to the master. This works.

But I also notice that only one of the slave servers will register portals on the master, and the other two just sit there idling. All of our explorations into caves happens on the one cave server only.

Is even possible to utilize more than one cave server? Is it even necessary? If so, what do they do, why are they there, why would I want more than one cave server, and how do I get the master to register portals on the other slave servers?

I know there's a command you can invoke from the console to direct a cave_entrance to a specific world.  I'm afraid I don't recall it.

Try looking at http://forums.kleientertainment.com/topic/59174-understanding-shards-and-migration-portals/#entry686747 and seeing if what DarkXero is talking about is helpful.

I saw that already. It doesn't really address the issue of multiple slave/cave servers. I'm not sure anyone knows, I'm hoping someone from KLEI might be able to shed some light on this subject.

Maybe the only way to use them is to create cave entrances from in game that direct to a specific slave/cave server? Everything I have seen indicates that the portals that automatically generate all point to just one slave/cave server, and if you watch the consoles you will see all of the slaves register with the master, but all of the portals get registered to just one slave/cave server.

@Mobbstar, they normally do, unless you configure them to lead to a different overlord(s)/cave(s) servers.

How, exactly, do you do that? Only one slave server registers a bunch of portals in the world, and all of the portals lead to different places in the same cave system. Do you have to manually configure portals to go to different slave servers? Is there a way to have it automatically spawn portals that go to different slave servers?

And this cave system is so big, why would you even want different caves?

Klei built this in, but I'm not quite sure why they did it unless it is nothing more but hooks for when they activate ruins, which will require a separate server.

Lo mas cercano que he podido lograr al tratar de poner 2 cuevas en el servidor es que, desde el mundo entras a la primera cueva y dentro de la cueva entras a la segundo cueva.

-Mapa (sinkhole)
  ->Cueva 1 (escaleras)
      ->Cueva 2

No se replicar este resultado con facilidad. Pero e podido hacerlo mas de una ves.

The closest I could get to try to put 2 caves on the server is that since the world walk into the first cave inside the cave and walk to the second cave.

-Map (Sinkhole)
   -> Cave 1 (stairs)
       -> Cave 2

This result is not easily replicate. But and I have done more than once.

GoogleTranslate.

Para mi esto es muy interesante, el poder tener mas de una cueva corriendo dentro de un servidor. Si aprendes a hacerlo de forma precisa me encantaria que me enseñaras.
Saludos!

For me this is very interesting, being able to have more of a cave running within a server. If you learn to do precisely I would love you to teach me.
Greetings!

HI zootal, i linked 8 servers togethers, 7 slaves, on master, 5 otherworld and 3 caves.

You have to edit

worldmigrator.lua         data/scripts/components and

shardnetworking.lua     data/scripts.
U will find a way to set mannually(algorythms) when servers load files the sinkholes  links.

It took me 3hours to understand how shards and portal ID behave on multilevel server.
And Klei did this : the last linked shard will overrive previous ID resgistering and become the new permanent linked world.
You have to set "false" on values "auto" if you want to set it manually :)

It's explained in the post by DarkXero. You might have only read the earlier posts.
