How to handle Deerclops?

Recommended Posts

is it still a treeguard or just a tree?

Still a treeguard. When treeguards are calm, they roam during the day, and sleep (looking like a tree) during the night.

you cant chop trees nearby without waking them up.

Don't chop trees nearby?

Yeah, don't use Beefalo. They used to be effective, but now with his new ice powers, they are useless.

The trick is when you start to hear him coming, get the hell out of you and make a little camp fire a fair distance away from your stuff. Then once he spawns, let him aggro on something and give him the slip.

Done.

Beefalo aren't completely useless against the Deerclops in RoG. They'll sustain very heavy casualties against him though, so it's only worth trying if your world is old enough to have herds of a dozen or more beefalo in the same place. Helps with beefalo overpopulation. (So, if you try this in your first or maybe even your second winter it'll probably backfire.)

Before the Deerclops got ice powers a single large treeguard was pretty evenly matched against him, and it's easy to get them to aggro on him with the way he knocks down trees, but with the ice attack he can get in two attacks between each of the treeguard's strikes so he'll kill one treeguard for sure unless something else softens him up first. You could try and get multiple treeguards on him, which has a better chance of success.

If you just want to get rid of him you can lead him to the Dragonfly, or the Bearger if you know where it is, and get one of them to catch the other with an area-of-effect attack aimed for you. You'll probably lose the loot though, since the Bearger will eat it and the Dragonfly will burn it.

Unfortunately, getting the Deerclops distracted by smashing things far away from you and ditching him there only works in singleplayer. In DST he'll despawn and attack again a few days later.

SO its me and the other guy, who keeps forgetting to put on log suit. LOL.

It is very important that players wear armor when engaged in fighting. It is much easier to collect materiel and make new armor, than to regenerate health.

Deerclops's melee attack is a 75 damage AOE hit. Without armor most character will be dead after taking 2 hits from the deerclops. Always have 1 spare armor of the same piece in the inventory so that if the armor you are wearing has broken the game can automaticly equip another piece.
