[Support] Game crash? Post here for help

Well, thanks so much for helping me out so many times :) Hopefully I can find a fix for it, probably due to my extremely horrible lua for the item (I am very bad at modding, I will see if I can get someone to look at it, although I do not know anyone who mods Don't Starve.) I will post the log again, as you said you wanted to take a look at it one final time.

@dargent Woah, did you type everything from the crash screen? o_o

Um, I put the link in the first post explaning where to find your log file.

First off, you should locate your log.txt file. It contains vital information on the problem.

 

As for the error, is it a mod you made? Do you modify the hambat at all?

There is a mod enabled that changed TUNING.HAMBAT_MIN_DAMAGE_MODIFIER, but left it nil for some reason.

Ensure that you have a file called RK.xml in your mod's bigportraits folder.

If you weren't trying to use a file with that name, check your code and remove or modify the lines which reference it. Use ctrl+f and search it in the code if you aren't sure where to look.

I need some help. I'm making a custom character mod, and for the most part, it works. However, when I select my character and go into a new world with him, the game just closes after the loading screen. No error screen, no "Don't Starve has stopped working" message, no nothing. It just closes. I'm incredibly new to modding, so I'd really appreciate it if you could help. I barely have a clue as to what I'm doing.

Err... That would be the file inside of don't_starve/mods/(modname)/scripts/prefabs, right? Forgive my idiocy, it's late and I haven't a clue what I'm doing. I think I have a clue as to what specific file you're talking about, but just in case, I've included the whole mod.

 

Again, I'm sorry for not understanding. I'm sleepy and my brains are a bit fried from finals.

It stopped crashing! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Only now I have a slight problem. It's nothing game-breaking, thankfully. It's just something I find a little annoying.

 

Bucky works beautifully once I first load him into a new world. His stats are how they should be, he's got his slight speed boost, his custom dialogue is in there... He's working nicely. The problem is that when I save the world and go to load his world again, Bucky is suddenly replaced with Wilson. His sanity is lowered down to 120, which is Bucky's default sanity, while his health and hunger are completely full because of Bucky's hunger and health levels, which are higher than Wilson's.

@Whitefang45 I assume that's related to something with the graphics, considering the internal code things are working. Can't really help you there, not my department. But..

Don't Starve won't even load the "warning" screen. I investigated the log and nothing said error, but the last line said:

 

"Break at: c:\jenkins\workspace\jobs\DontStarve_Release_Make_Steam_Package\workspace\source\util/resourcemanager.h(142) :"

 

Does that have something to do with it?

 

 

EDIT: Here is the full log, my mod is named "chris".

@arieola Look at the line right before that:

Could not load texture ../mods/Chris/images/saveslot_portraits/esctemplate.tex 

 Check that tex file. If it doesn't exist, either make it or remove any reference to it in your code.

Nice work, dude =/ And i may add one more thing, but this not crashing, this is Freeze of the game. so, if your game froze, this means you made a syntax error in your code, check for syntax errors

It doesn't necessarily mean it's a syntax error either way. There are numerous factors that can contribute to how the game crashes. It can either full-shutdown crash, show the crash screen, or freeze. It depends on what part of the code "caught" the error. Syntax errors can sometimes be caught by whatever handles the crash screen. If there aren't any exception (error) handles for that type of error, it will usually full-crash or freeze. Freezing generally happens instead of a full-crash when the game doesn't realize right away that something broke (e.g. infinite loop).

As for me (yes yes, my experience :D):

Game freezes only when i got syntax erros. missed commas or "end" but never crash. - also freezes if you want to use something which is not yet initialized

Crash happen only when code doesn't work properly, f.e. nil values

Hello all,

 

Okay so I'm new to modding this game, and completely new when it comes to scripting in general, I was super excited to make my own character as modding games is something I love to do.

 

I can't figure out what I have done wrong here, i have tried so many fixes and read through the log to try and fix it myself but so far nothing works.

 

I'm adding my log fil as well as my character file, can someone have a look and see what I did wrong and how I can fix it?

 

I named the file n92 because i saw in a tutorial that it's smart to name it something less likely to be copied.

 

Please let me know if anyone can help me, thank you all!

Your log:

Check to make sure you have a file "../images/avatars/avatar_n92.xml" in your mod. If it's not there, either make it or remove any references to it in your code.
