DRM FREE copy of Don't Starve and Don't starve together

Recommended Posts

I tried the Steam version of DST with my friends and it is pretty good game.

I HATE Steam and all DRM and if I can I never buy games with DRM.

So I was thrilled to see that DST will be available for DRM Free copies of the game.

Then I bought 4 copies for my friends.

This happened on 30.12.2014

Now I come back from my holiday vacantion and I see that the original post has been eddited and the DRM free part has been deleted.

Imagine the dissapointment.

Is DST going to be out DRM free.

Or at least will the DRM free owners of Don't Starve get at least the crappy Steam version of DST?

If I am stuck with 4 copies of your game because you lied to me about the multiplayer part I will be really dissapointed.

Please answer.

p.s.

Some feedback.

The search engine only searches by words and when you search DRM FREE it shows stuid results that are not helpfull and I had to register and make this post in order to get my info although it might be answered before.

Your steam forums are tottaly out of controll and don't give any usefull information aswell.

I wish you all good in the new 2015 and I hope that this is just an misunderstanding.

Whoever owns Don't Starve on Steam will receive a free copy of Don't Starve Together once it gets out of beta, in other words, once it's released.

You can buy the Early Access version, but only if you want to play it before it is released, but if you don't want to waste money then just wait, and, if you already has Don't Starve on your steam you'll receive a copy of Don't Starve Together once it comes out.

@Grumpysaurus,

Yeah, it'll be out DRM free, but right now it relies too heavily on steam to release that.

What do you have against steam, anyway? It's practically not even there if you set up your settings properly.

Also you can search for an exact phrase by using quotes (EX: "drm free" will include posts with exactly that, instead of drm free, which returns any posts with drm or free)

I HATE Steam and all DRM and if I can I never buy games with DRM.

DST is using Steam as a "temporary crutch" since you can get updates right away and uses your Steam name as your DST ID and it also lets you create your account.

I have no idea when DST will become DRM Free but  for now, the Steam version is the best you can get.

Also, how can you hate Steam for DRM? It's literally the biggest platform on the PC.

@RalphKastro,

Pretty much what he's saying. I know it's planned, but I'm not sure where to find that information, I'll take a quick look around and see if I can find it.

I could understand hating it if it were invasive, but it's totally not.

Why all the hate?

All the DRM hate is mostly because:

I am travelling a lot and I don't want ot have to be allways connected to play my games during the week airports and stations.

I play mostly when I'm with my pals on one of my villas and we don't have internet so we play small DRM free games usualy bought from GOG.

I prefer to own the software I buy.

I don't want to have to buy additional copyes of games just to gift to friends who will play once and forget about it.

So no official answer here.

It's good I bought the game for like 2$ if that was a 60$ game I'd be furious.

So I will repeat.

Why did you stated in the main thread that the DRM free owners will receive DST aswell as the Steam owners and then removed it?

You have an offline mode in Steam. You can play without connection to the internet (unless is connection related games like DOTA, and all your achievements will not be recorded). I believe DST supports LAN in offline mode. You can share your games with your friends on steam for them to try (they can play any of your games unless you're playing right now), it possible with familty settings. Is not like you can play online with each other using the same key (and kind of unfair).

Whoever owns Don't Starve on Steam will receive a free copy of Don't Starve Together once it gets out of beta, in other words, once it's release.

You do not own anything on steam, Valve has the right to take your account away (and all the games you paid for) for any reason they see fit,

You don't have to always be connected for steam, in fact you only have to be connected when you download a game or try to play an online game (for obvious reasons)

Honestly this is a valid complaint.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. You never have to buy extra copies of a game.

Honestly I don't know, I'd like an answer on this too, maybe it's just fallen a little behind on the priority list. Either way, it's likely to happen by the time release comes around.

If that was indeed the case, it was probably for clarity, as Steam was always going to be the sole platform to begin with, as it has been with DS betas, Invisible Inc. betas, and probably their other games but I haven't played those in beta so I wouldn't know. So you're probably right about it being at or after release.

You can not play multiplayer offline if the game uses Steamworks.

Even if it says LAN, you will have to be online in Steam.

I remember the thons of bullshit we had to go through in order to play L4D2 offline. And we still can't play Borderlands nor Borderlands 2 although both games have LAN.

I needed to have official information form someone who works in Klei.

I can spaeculate aswell but the question still stand.

Why did the text got changed and the DRM free statement was removed. And will the people who own Don't starve DRM free will receive DST as well as the Steam owners.

I wouldn't mine if they give us a steam keys or whatever. It would not be what I want but it will be something.

I know that, but we're not talking about Valve here gentleman, we're talking about what will happen once Don't Starve Together to answer the question the gentleman that created this post asked.

And yes, I do own the game until Valve takes my account away, it is all mine, I paid for them, but it also belongs to Valve and the developers of the game, Valve will take my Steam account off not for a random reason too, when you said this it sounded like Valve deletes steam accounts for no reason, and it's not like that, they delete a steam account if this account disrespected the rules and/or a very serious rule, with proof that it did it, examples would be a hacker or a schemer that schemed players more than 3 times...

Oh really?

Read their ToS, you are "renting" the games that you buy,

I went through an ordeal with Valve and lost my account for several weeks, just because I was using a VPN while i traveled for work.

You are renting but they're yours, they just have the right to take them from you if something grave happens!

They took away your account 'cause of THAT? Man, Valve has problems...

Valve hates VPNs because people use them to get around regionlocks which open up a lot of lawsuit potentials, not to mention muddle up the region pricing, such as russian copies of games always being significantly cheaper than north american. There's no need to spoof your country unless you're trying to get around the regionlocks to purchase games in a region you're not currently in.
