Would you help me decide what preset to use on my server?

Recommended Posts

Hello again forum, I'm looking to get some help on deciding what kind of preset I should use for my public server on DST.

Here are the changes from the default preset:

Land Branch: Never

Land Loop: Always

Touch Stones: Lots

Set Piece: Lots

Grass: More

Saplings: More

Flint: More

Stone: More

Rocks: Lots

Reeds: More

Berry Bush: More

Carrots: More

Rabbits: More

Basically more resources for the server to hopefully support 4 people at the same time, without looking too overloaded with things in the world. I have no idea what would be good or bad when adjusting the monster's settings in the preset, so I leave them all on default. I personally like the land branch: never and land loop: always as a setting cause it results into a donut shaped world. Might be too easy to explore but wouldn't be that difficult to give out instructions for newcomers to the server to be able to find camp.

Is there anything else you guys think I should change or add to the preset? or do you think is should just stick to a default preset instead?

Flint: More is definitely a good idea, since once the first group of players has gotten some flint for their initial pickaxes/axes, it often becomes really hard for anyone joining later to get any flint.

Personally I think saplings/grass/reeds/rabbits are fine on default settings, and setting them to more takes away a lot of the uniqueness of biomes. But that's just a preference.

Another thing you could consider is Long Summer-- Widley's World used this and it resulted in a more relaxed experience for all, which was more focused on making contributions to the base (like koalefant pens) than on surviving.

I'd say as @rezecib did, go for flint. Flint is the most useful of all resources when starting out. I would also recommend increasing rocks and boulders if you want to get more gold for later on buildings. Also as rezecib said again, go for long summer. I think it results in you felling more relaxed rather than that "OH GOD WE GOT WINTER IN 1 DAY" felling.

Thank you, yes now that I've retried multiple worlds with these presets I've made, having renewable resources set to more is just overkill. Thanks for all the input rez!

I should have thought about the long summer part too even before making this thread, so thank you for chipping in pyro.

I like the donut shaped world, I have a SP game like that, it's fun! I would echo @rezecib and @Pyromailmann with regards to more flint/boulders, and that the other resources aren't all that necessary since they'll renew. I'd also suggest:

Medium or Large world perhaps? Depending on how long you plan to keep the world going, it can provide even further exploration for folks who may want to play for extended periods of time. If you do this though, setting Touchstones to more might be a good idea in case of newcomers to the game.

What I see currently is pretty nice, some of the natural occurring things are fine on default, but certain resources like stone, flint are great ideas to have on lots.

Touch Stones: If you plan on having more than 4 on the server than maybe more would be just fine, but lots might make the game to easy for people, I don't know.

Overall what other people have said in this thread are the only other things I noticed that might need tweaking.
