If you want to know why the giants always look similiar, despite being unique creatures, you should get an "actually a cake" biscuit. It baits the space gympy responsible. EDIT: To add slight actual information: They appear between 2 to 3.5 screen lengths away from you, if you don't move. The exact value depends on several factors nobody seems to know. Maxwell himself doesn't seem to have any clue where the giants came from, the most he knows is that the Goose Moose must have came from up north.
