I know you can make Mandrake Soup which is one of the best food items, or a Pan Flute which can put animals to sleep. But I was quite disappointed when I found out the Pan Flute only has 10 uses. I mean for such a rare item it seems like it should have no durability. Anyways I figured I shouldn't waste it on shaving Beefalo during the day, so what should I do with it? The_Cookiebeast Posted October 6, 2014 Share Posted October 6, 2014 Pan flutes are pretty much the best use for mandrakes, they can be used to put boss monsters to sleep easily so you can explode them with gunpowder, especially with RoG where there are a lot more boss monsters around that you can easily kill with old bell+pan flute combo. Eating mandrakes really won't help you out that much long term like a pan flute will. DwerBomb Posted October 6, 2014 Share Posted October 6, 2014 When using the Pan Flute, I suggest you should stop using it when you reach the last use. You can, then, use the Deconstrction Staff (you will be able to craft it in the Ruins in the late-game) on it: it will give you back the mandrake you used, making it a possible infinite resource (it's an expensive methofd, but it works).And yes, the Pan Flute it's basically the mandrake's best use. spencer320 Posted October 6, 2014 Share Posted October 6, 2014 You'll need the shadow manipulator to make the pan flute. If you have that, it's easy. 5 cut reeds, mandrake and a rope. Stand next to the manipulator and look in magic tab.Blow the pan flute, giant falls asleep, run near giant place gunpowder, light gunpowder... Run away. Finish him off and collect the loot. The DragonFly needs 14 and he'll die completely. Other Giants you want to use one less so you can still get their drops. Not sure on the number, I only use the GP on the DragonFly. Why don't shave beefalo at full moon (RoG)? Anyways, I often use the pan flute as an "Oh, sh***!- button. Some kind of last rescue if things get real. It's convenient to instantly stop giants to get time to gear up. Also useful on bad timed hound waves (low sanity, health and no gear) as they often happen after exiting caves. spencer320 Posted October 7, 2014 Share Posted October 7, 2014 Use 6 on the spider queen then finish her off with a spear or hambat. I think it's 2 or 3 hits should do it. Krampus... Just armor up and tank him. If you happen to get a Deerclops spawn on you, I think he has 2000 health in vanilla. Try 9 then weave in and out between his attacks. If you don't want their drops add 1 more GP to each. Better to learn how to kite them tho. Clops will take a little practice but the Queen isn't too bad.
