mathieu0821
I think we all agree that there are not much animals to hunt in Don't starve. I once tried to be a hunter: a few days were enough to starve to death... This is why I am going to give you suggestions about animals that could be added later in the game, after Don't Starve Together.Pig/wild boar : It would spawn randomly, unlike beefaloes, they would be infinitely spawning around the player (far enough so he has to look for them for about 2 minutes). This way, there will be an infinite food source for hunters, they would loot only one meat to balance the fact that he is common.Wolf : It would spawn as pigs or wild boars but would be quite rare, they could be tamed using a very rare item (such as a bone) that would be found in graves for example. When tamed, they would help the player to find animals and would defend the player when he gets hit or that he hits someone. He would loot 2 large meets.Chicken : Same as pigs/wild boars and wolves regarding the spawning. However they would be very rare, indeed, they would drop a small egg (new item) every day which would gives 10 points of hunger when cook and ate. They would loot chicken meat (new item) which gives 30 points of hunger. If you have other ideas to improve hunting, don't hesitate to post them below. (Please be constructive in your message).Greetings,Mathieu Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/36322-hunting-update-suggestion/ Share on other sites

imsomony
I dunno man, I think there are plenty of animals to hunt that provide meat/morsels/by-products already: - Koalefant- Beefalo (and babies)- Tallbirds (and babies)- Gobblers- Rabbits- Pigs (and Werepigs)- Spiders (Monster meat only)- Hounds (Monster meat only)- Tentacles (Monster meat only)- Pengulls- MacTusk (and son)- Boss monsters (Deerclops, Ancient Guardian, etc)- Birds (redbird, snowbird, crows)- Splumonkey- Rock Lobsters- Bunnymen You can also fish (fish or eels, depending on where you are), kills frogs (legs), kill merms (fish and frog legs), or kills batalisks (wings). I'm sure there's others I'm forgetting, and this list doesn't even include Reign of Giants additions. CaptainClam
Pigs would be odd as we have Pigmen. We have hounds, which are like wolves, and the taming system you mentioned seems taken straight out of minecraft. Come to think of it, all the creatures you just suggested are like from minecraft. LadyAzure
I personally don't see the need for much in the way of changing the system, all you really need besides a beefalo pen are pig houses or living near ponds like I do. I also have a rabbit farm, so Its not hard. Warden
Personally I just go out and dig up a bunch of moleworm homes, then whack the molemorms going after the mineral that came out of their dug up home and gather up a fair bit of them. I then relocate them near my base where they'll build new homes which will spawn new moleworms every afternoon/night. All you have to do is place a rock while you sit near your fire and wait for them to come after the rock, then smack them with the hammer, kill them in the inventory, and chuck them into your icebox/onto the drying rack. Unlike rabbits, they are available all year round and you can box them in with walls if you want to keep them contained. I have 8 or so near my base that I relocated and I never go hungry with all that mole jerky If people decide to use this method, moles may become a limited resource, but can be renewable since they can spawn from earthquakes underground. blank03
I'm new here. My suggestion is that instead they should make like a river lake type place that would eventually drain to the ocean. Then seasonally there are bears sorrounding the area for salmon(or whatever is the equivalent of salmon in DS). So you can just catch the fish but watch out for bears. On different seasons since salmon in real life only goes to their spawning ground on upper river in real life, you can then have leeches while in water or even crocodiles. Even whirpools or rapids for hazards depending on the season specially during rainy seasons. Mr_E_Fox
I think we all agree that there are not much animals to hunt in Don't starve. I once tried to be a hunter: a few days were enough to starve to death... I don't believe you've given this method enough of a try, or at least have not come across a more optimal method than what you're using. Frankly the existing game elements make this method more than viable, and it is in fact my preferred method of playing DS. I'm also not sure if you're aware on how large an update you're proposing is. Have another go at hunting/gathering, you'll likely improve. The_Cookiebeast
Ok i'm going to be a little constructive and a little harsh here so please try not to be too offended, just the right amount. There are no wrong suggestions of course, but if there were i would say this is one such example. I don't think everyone would be in agreement with this at all. The very fact that you want something that you describe as an "infinite food source" in a game called 'Don't Starve' just absolutely invalidates both the title and the entire game. Also an egg is not a new item, eggs have been in the game for a long time. Now to be a little constructive, if what you mean to be a 'hunter' play style is wandering around and killing things for food without establishing any sort of base, then that can be fairly easily achieved, however it does require a little bit of science. There are bird traps, regular traps and fishing rods which can be used to 'hunt' small game with ease. Also feeding four monster meat to pigs so they turn into werepigs is not too hard to do, only requiring that you kill a couple of monsters such as spiders first. To easily down a werepig just kite them, attacking twice and then moving away between their attacks will guarantee that ye down the foul beast and tonight ye shall feast. If that isn't enough, you can always hunt Koalefant by following it's trail of suspicious dirt piles, though killing it will most likely require a ranged weapon to be able to engage it once found. Once engaged however you need only attack 5 (6 if you're feeling lucky) times after dodging it's own attack, then move away so it doesn't hit you, letting it attack again before moving in for another 5 attacks, wash rinse and repeat. I hope this has been some help to you. mathieu0821
It seems that I was wrong, however, you learned me new method for hunting and I thank you for that ! Please consider the topic as close unless you have a bright idea about hunting which as not been mentioned above (such as the salmon and bear one).
