If you get a deerclops spawn, lead him over there for one-eyed hilarity.

I used that for hound until day 100. The nests were slowly going away due to fire hounds, and the hounds were getting stronger.

In my last game the only rock field had a Tallfort at the entrance to the peninsula, let's just say it was an interesting experience every time I needed some rocks or nitre.
