Iris
I noticed today while exploring caves that there were no fireflies anywhere. Did I miss a previous update that removed the fireflies underground or is this a RoG thing?
BipedalBear
Fireflies were removed since they added the light bulb. You can still catch some from the surface and transplant them to the caves. As for the purpose of catching firefly, what is the point of that? Since miner's hat can be refueled by light bulb, I see little use of fireflies. gangreneday
Take the fireflies and let them loose in your camp. Nightlight.
Iris
Hm I guess I missed it then, I recall caves having both fireflies and lightbulbs.I like using fireflies to decorate. I liked leaving the ones on the surface alone and just taking them from caves. Does anyone know whether or not light bulbs regrow while you're on the surface? I'm guessing no but hoping yes. Since miner's hat can be refueled by light bulb, I see little use of fireflies. 1 - Fireflies restore more to a lantern or miner hat than light bulbs.2 - Fireflies do not spoil, unlike light bulbs.3 - Fireflies can be used for permanent lights in your camp.4 - Some people just dont like spelunking thats all i can think of right now

porps
there are both types of bush still, i have loads of the rarer "tropical" berry bushes in the pig village near my camp.
Tumalu
The other variety of berry bush is the exact same as it was in the previous version of the game; it only spawns with pigs and usually isn't spawned due to not being in every pig village, just the same as in vanilla. I don't see why you need fireflies in caves. I don't think normal fireflies live in caves anyway, for that matter. You can get plenty of fireflies aboveground (and they can still get planted in your cave base) and for refueling purposes there's tons of lightbulbs all over the place. You need to set berry bushes to Lots if you want to get the second kind of ones! Which sucks.

Ridley
Strange, I thought I saw some fireflies in the mushroom biome last time I visited. Will have to check again soon, as I am going to light up the base with slurpers anyway.
forge
Why would you want to refuel your miner's hat if you could use moggles?

porps
Can you explain the, "Fireflies can be used for permanent lights in your camp." ? Sure - You just plant them on the ground like you would plant a pinecone. One thing i've done in the past is to plant a ring of them around my firepit, then if i choose to i can just run laps of the firepit rather than burning any fuel. They fade to black when you stand on them, but if done right by the time you complete a lap the first one will be glowing again, allowing you to be in permanent light. Ridley
Doesn't that burn serious sanity? No, it has breaks apart in two days and needs the sewing kit instead of the light bulbs. Playing the caves last longer with the miners light this way.

Playing the caves last longer with the miners light this way. I'm fairly certain you quoted the wrong post. I would say it's a fair trade off. Sewing kits are fairly easy to make and it uses all renewable resources. With moggles you can see everything almost perfectly in the caves. A sewing kit has 5 uses and it repairs 100% of the durability of moggles. Moggles last 2 days so you get 10 days of continual use out of your moggles. I am not sure why we are talking about moggles on a topic about fireflies. I would say its a fair trade too.

Being near darkness is hard on sanity. I've ran between groups of fireflies in an emergency before, and you tend to come out of that needing cookies or candy.
