WX-78 OP?

Recommended Posts

The more I think about our Robot friend the more I feel he's a bit unfair.

- My first reason to this is because of his end game stats. I know you COULD just stunt yourself and not eat gears to get all the upgrades but I hate doing that in games. I feel as if the bonuses should be smaller or maybe just temporary because late game, having 400 health is a bit crazy along with all his other crazy things like 300 Sanity and 200 Hunger.

- Him being able to eat things that are going bad makes it so he doesn't have to waste gears to make Ice Boxes which means he can use ALL the gears he finds to upgrade himself making it quicker for him to reach end game results.

- He takes damage in the rain. Yea, so what? 400 health, rain doesn't do anything with that kind of health.

- And lastly, him being over charged by Lightning. Makes him run faster, regain health, and break things faster. It's pretty much a Werebeaver but without the drawbacks. It lasts an ENTIRE DAY meaning you could wipe out whole biomes. You lose 33 sanity each time struck but like before SO WHAT 300 Sanity, 33 Sanity loss is nothing. Also, you get SYSTEM OVERLOADED when re spawning via Touch Stone allowing you to get back to where you died A LOT faster.

He pretty much has no drawbacks and he makes Adventure Mode a breeze when he has full Upgrades. I feel like he is a bit TOO easy and desperately needs some sort of draw back. Maybe the more you upgrade the slower you move. Or the more you upgrade the more inventory space you lose due to all your slots being filled by new parts being added to your body. OR HELL, maybe when you SYSTEM OVERLOAD you go bat **** crazy, that would make him interesting. Just something that would make him harder.

I know that there have been threads about this before but i'm hoping that with Reign of Giants, Klei will finally see that this guy has the potential for a re work. It would be awesome to tell me what you think of this and maybe Klei could see it to. (Sorry for any errors in my typing, I whipped this up kind of quickly. :wilson_cool:  )

He also can regain all his hp if you use telelocator stuff on something that isn't you, and you can't freeze with it.

Worry free revive will be fixed in DLC, and rain damage will be much bigger threat, developer also said that having full rain resistance would have drawback.

Ah crap you're right Silentdarkness. Sorry bout that :/. And yea Creeper you are right, single player games don't really need re balancing because it's meant to be played how you want to play it. And I did some more thinking and kind of realized he is balanced.

- Early game is hell.

- In RoG, it's so hard to start due to rain. Legit near impossible.

- You go insane so much due to rain it's not even funny. Lightning is hell.

- Getting gears is now the hardest thing NA.

- Once you're end game all characters are pretty much invincible due to camps being so clustered with tooth traps. So having high health, sanity, and hunger mean nothing due to all the food you'd have.

New DLC balanced him. I'm scared now. This DLC is kicking my ass.  :wilson_cry:

well i guess the robot is for noobs who can't get past day 3!! but choosing a character is your choice. i choose other characters to have fun with but the main protagonist in this game is wilson. i don't feel anywhere near accomplished of anything in don't starve if I'm not using him.

If the game would simply add some serious problem tied to having 0 sanity, then WX-78 would be completely balanced.

IMO sanity should, to a certain extent, take control away for short periods at random intervals for some

reason or another. Since insanity is basically a crippled judgement paired with a blurry grasp of reality, it

would make sense. Like for example when insane your character might randomly charge at mobs and unavoidably

attack them. Yes, that would suck, but hey, do a better job of managing your sanity!

Good idea Soopa. And Scize, I don't even understand your logic. He's very weak early game (Even more so now) and it's not like you always have those high stats, you need to earn them. I regret even making this thread because now I realize he's pretty balanced with RoG. Also, what are you talking about... the Pengulls are the main protagonists in this game!

with 300 sanity?? if you reach 0 off that then you have no business playing this game

Heheh. You don't even know how easy it is to lose mass amounts of sanity. Try taking on Deerclops, or going cave-spelunking for a day or two. Then see how much sanity you have.

Deerclopse especially. He drains 400 sanity/min when you simply stand next to him.

It's a literal hell dealing with WX's sanity early game as well. Doing simple things like digging up graves or jumping into worm holes can end with Terrorbeaks and Crawling Horrors

No. Bad idea. Loss of control of your character in a permadeath game is not fun. especially if it's random.

I think that insanity can be easily handled by either tougher nightmare creatures, or more unique ones(Say, a Nightmare Creature that lights your structures on fire), or perhaps making items look like other items(I.E, Monster Meat looking like meatballs).

Hmm...yes, that's a better idea I suppose.

Yeah i agree that he is a bit OP... Or at least, his late game is. But it's a single player game so why does that matter at all? If he is too easy for you, simply use a different character. Some are clearly designed to make things more difficult than others.

There is no reason that the characters in a single player game must be balanced.

And it's damn difficult to do 'A Cold Reception' with WX-78, literally hell. With the constant rains and lack of an umbrella..

Except he starts with stats worse than Wes, the hardcore character, and you are damaged by rain, one of the main focuses of DLC, and you need to actually be good at kiting to get some gears, and you need to explore the map to find clockworks...
