I would love to see beefalo riding

Recommended Posts

I'd like a mount, but I'm not sure beefalos are the best choice. Maybe you can "revive" a dead spider queen to be your undead mount? It wouldn't spawn friendly spiders or anything, it'd just be ridable. The saddle should also probably be made with Thulecite too. But it'd drop when the spider dies, so you don't have to use up a whole lot of thulecite.

Wilson riding a Beefalo into battle was one of the very, very first Don't Starve Art pieces posted on the forums...so the idea is as old as the Don't Starve Forum Community.....

Edit:

Not meaning the idea is bad....just he possibility of it being implemented is kinda....low (sadly) I would love taking Worthington out on a ride now and then...crushing some merms....

From what I have gathered so far, the main argument against beefalo riding or mounts in general is that it would allow long distance travel to be too easy and dub down the game as part of the gameplay focusing on planning travel; however, one must consider how tedious and repetitive it can be.

There would be inconveniences to riding as well--say a player can't pick up or interact with the environment--only travel and speed would be allowed--maybe a beefalo call that can bring a herd in battle or into a following mod--like beefalo horn.

Reasons to Add:

-The DLC focuses on adding radical or new, not normally considered content to the game.

-It would allow for large and huge worlds to be explored in a more timely fashion.

-Mounts would act as a step up from a walking cane--ties in with faster travel.

-New combat mechanics and options--taking a giant head on would be more plausible.

-Many people have expressed support for it.

-Sometimes beefalo would randomly follow, allowing new herds to be established in different points in the world?

-The materials needed to craft it would help balance any convinces riding gives.

Anyway, in order to mount a beefalo, a player would have to craft a saddle, which could costs something like 10 logs, 5 pigs skins, 2 bunnyman tuffs, and 3 gold.

However; a saddle will only allow a player to ride a beefalo, not to control were it moves--(think Minecraft pig.)

In order to control the beefalo, an additional, "steering stick" would have to be crafted with 1 rope, 10 twigs, 5 grass--something like that.

The effects and uses of a steering stick would depend on what is tied at the end, which would include:

Carrots: The most basic and easy to use.  With every couple of steps traveled, a beefalo has a chance of eating the carrot and another would have to replace it.

Gems: Would have the same effects as the uses of necklaces. All gems would glow in the dark to allow nighttime travel, unlike carrots--(but would require nightmare fuel to stay on?)

Purple-Drains sanity, but makes beefalo more aggressive/powerful.

Red-Slows down freezing--best used for winter travel.

Blue-Slows down overheating--best used for summer travel.

Yellow-Increased lighting.

Orange-Enables player to loot items off ground.

Green-Provides sanity boost.

Gems would break over time and would need a replacement--perhaps nightmare fuel would be needed to keep a gem glowing.

Each time a gem runs out or a carrot is consumed, the durability of the stick would be damaged as well.

Alright, I suppose that's about the basics.

If you disagree, please, don't use the argument that it could be made into a mod.

In theory, the fan base can create many advanced mods, but it doesn't happen often. Mods aren't updated, projects abandoned, and expertise is required. A fan made mod is possible, but it's unlikely it will be completed or would fit into the gameplay of the game.

The new DLC has been created in order to allow for more opportunities to add new additions.

Beefalo riding just screams premium DLC and there are various ways in which it could be implemented into the game--given the reasons I previously stated.
