KimoraMae
Do we, or will we ever find out how the other characters in Don't Starve got into the forest/nightmare world they are currently in. We know Wilsons, are the others friends of his that followed him, were lured in by Maxwell- appealing to their interests like the science for Wilson? Also to those who have completed the story in different characters, does Maxwell react differently to other characters finding him at the end? Maximum124
Maxwell does not react differently for each character, the only thing that's changed is the name in the text you get after they get put on the throne, and what character will be there if you beat adventure mode again on that save As for the backstories we probably won't get much, but a lot of people have gone through character quotes and found things alluding to backstory (Willow says something about being in the girl scouts once I believe, Maxwell about his old "act" etc) The devs have said that they want to add some more story in DLC though but all I can suggest now is to read the DS wiki and come to your own conclusions about the characters
Parrotoss
Yep, we only know Wilson's, which is a bit loose anyway. Lots of people like to makes connection between the characters--like Wilson is Willow's uncle or something--I like to believe that the reason the characters were picked by Maxwell is simply because their names start "W." Maxwell could have starting taking people starting with "A" and going down the whole alphabet--now were're simply at "W."

MaxStrategy
Well only Wilson has a backstory per se, since they are all alternative personalities of Wilson and the story of Don't Starve takes place in his mind after one of his experiments puts him in a coma. For example Wes is his ego (imprisoned by Maxwell), Willow represents the ID, Wolfgang represents the Superego, etc. The various scary monsters represent the damaged state of his mind, inner fears, as well as primal impulses (ex. pigs = gluttony). By conquering his mind and taking the nightmare throne from Maxwell (the avatar of the world he created with his 'fragmented mind') he reclaims dominance of his mind and then he wakes up in the real world while the world of Don't Starve descends into 'darkness'. He probably eats some chocolate pudding and has an old cranky nurse at his bedside that looks like Wickerbottom. Mmm....chocolate pudding. Woodie represents a human's natural subconscious desire to become a Canadian lumberjack.
MycoLogical
I've been a VERY strong proponent for back stories from the start

Amkar
Woodie represents a human's natural subconscious desire to become a Canadian lumberjack. I was reading your theory, thinking how it made no sense, and then this came along and it's suddenly crystal clear. Also, I'd like to throw in that Wolfgang's backstory was explained slightly in one of the puzzles. I can't quite remember, but I believe it involved butter. If someone could remember better than me, that'd be great.
