Misaki
Before Strange New Powers update Klei was saying something about nerfing bees, so that you can't only live by farming honey.I still menage to farm two stacks of honey every 5 days from my 6 bee box's, was the nerfing idea scrapped? Btw. Yes, I know that they fixed free honey at winter, but this wasn't really a nerf. GuGonce
On my opinion,it's kind of impossible to nerf the bees. All their effort to nerf it is ruined if you build more bee boxes. gnarlytreeman
true but 6 bee boxes for what 2 stacks of honey every summer? still overboard. they should have the regen of farm plots.(off of 6 plots) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/30405-about-the-bee-nerf/#findComment-390645 Share on other sites
Cynical Cynicist
How about requiring that you combine honey together to make...bigger piles of honey (e.g. 6 honey together = 1 unit of something)? Sort of like refining thulecite fragments. Could at least contribute somewhat to toning down the excess of honey supplies... lunchb0x
I have 2 possible solutions to the honey problem. Clearly it makes the game far too easy once you know how to build honey farms, but I don't think putting in RNG on honeycombs really helps the situation it just delays or puts a smaller cap on the number of bee boxes a map can have but if I really want 20 bee farms I will find all the honeycombs in my map then use the teleportato to get more. Option 1I think the solution is to keep everything the same but make honey -3 HP instead of +3. This way you are losing 50 health every couple days if you choose to live only on honey. Sure you could make honey poultice as well to stop the health drain but this would at least make honey less viable by itself and make people more likely to keep it in the fridge and use it for crock pot recipes which will provide large hunger and healing.I think at the very least honey should not heal any HP because as it stands now while keeping up with a day's hunger drain you are healing ~24 HP which should be enough to cover most damage taken in a day as long as you had armour on. Option 2Another option for all foods that could solve the honey issue would be a feature that keeps track of your diet. Perhaps the more you eat one food item the less hunger it restores(Food Boredom?). Every time you eat a specific food item it receives a tick, each tick reduces the amount of hunger restored to .95 of the item's hunger value; So eating the same food 10 times in a row means that you will only receive 60% of it's hunger value. Ticks reduce over time; -1 tick across all foods every 2-3 days. This would encourage players to cook a variety of meals and a variety of different farming methods without making the punishments too harsh imo. It would really punish players who use honey since after a few days of purely honey it would restore very little hunger. I like option 2 but my biggest worry about option 2 is that it makes the game more difficult until you get a crock pot since most players sustain on berries and carrots which would quickly lose their hunger values after repeated use. Perhaps raw vegetables don't accumulate ticks since they take a lot of work already to sustain yourself permanently. Cooked vegetables still gain ticks so all veggie crock pot recipes will be reduced with constant use. Misaki
I think option nr1 would be logical since taffy actually does drain our health, but it should be little, like -1 or so. GuGonce
I liked the option 2. As for the berries and carrots, their tick could be less agressive than the others food. vimrich
I don't think it's an issue. Before I discovered honey as food, I used to live almost as easily on Rabbits/meatballs (I saved honey for poultices until I figured it out.) Point being, after the first game month or so, or at least whenever you settle into a base, food becomes a nuisance, not a life threat. Same for darkness. I think it's fine as is. All the late game stuff, like exploring in caves/ruins is made MUCH more fun by being able to stock up many days or so of food in only a day or two of work at the base. If they really want to re-balance it, they just have to make the honey take longer to develop in the box.
